Hey, just a quick question, I used to make items for myself in BG, using Cromwell's Smithy, but that was a long while ago.

Just wanted to ask what's the easiest to use item maker around these days, to make items for BG 1 and 2.

    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, the easiest program is probaby still Cromwell's Smithy.

Wow there is still interest for Baldur's item editing.

Long ago I was making a tool for myself, but as I lost interest in BG2 scene, I discontinued it. It's like Cromwell's Smithy but more stable, planned features included:
    - Easy mode: a wizard, like in C.Smithy
    - Professional mode: edit all details like a modder
    - open any number of simultaneous editor windows, display item graphics when browsing:
    http://urza.mywebcommunity.org/visualbrowser.html
    http://urza.mywebcommunity.org/gridbrowser.html

If there is still enough interest for a BG2 item tool, I can dig up my old files and programming skills with some motivation, and resurrect the project.

[IMG] Cromwell's Smithy was rather nice but not very stable. If you can finish your project that would be a nice addition to modding tools (especially if it's easy to use and more stable).
UrzaAvenger, I'm pretty sure you'll find many players here who would be interested in such a program. ;)

Yes it does. It was planned to make an export function at the end of the wizard. Two clicks and an installable WeiDU item pack is generated automatically.

In fact even a difference based WeiDU patching feature was planned back then, when I still was excited for Baldur and item creation (think it was around the release of IA v4 by the way).

I've just digged up the last version, pretty messy, and far from finished. Seems to be damn lot work to finish this! I'll have to think about it. Might open a homepage about it and maybe see what the actual interest is.

Well, I understand that it is a lot of work but if you manage to summon the motivation let us know how it goes. ;)

Thanks for the reassurance. At the moment, it would most likely demand too big sacrifices in RL. Having said that, I'm open to ideas and also founded a blog to keep everyone posted about happenings/ramblings.

I have absolutely no experience in modding BG2 or IE games so I can't really help.

One thing that I found interesting with Cromwell Smithy was the very wide array of options to customize items but the lack of precise information was a bit daunting. I actually used it once to make a silly scimitar for a Wild Mage that would cause some silly effects to mimick some of the wild surges (change gender, force wild magic on mages that were hit). It took me some time to get it to work and it wasn't bug free either.

The good thing with BG2 is that even if it takes you years to complete this project you will always find a dedicated fanbase willing to use it in game. ;)
