How to kill this Tolg-something character?

are you talking about Tolgerias? what mods if any are installed?

 

He's quite simple with the right, if somewhat cheesy, strategy.

I'm assuming you're in the planar sphere? When you enter that level, don't move, just send a stealthed character to scout. If Tolgerias casts true sigh, then retreat. Summon one lot of creatures and send them through. Tolgerias will waste a high level spell on them and the other mage will summon some creatures of her own. Wait until her summons are unsummoned, then send another lot of summons in. Same story, do it again if you can. By now the 2nd mage will have wasted her summon spells. Have your mage cast polymorph self and enter the chamber. Immediately shift into a mustard jelly. Tolgerias and the other mage will waste all their spells on the jelly (which has 100% magic resistance). As soon as they're out of spells, send the rest of your party in to cut them to ribbons.

Piece of cake.

Quite a bit harder with the improved mages from the tactics mod, but same general strategy. Let them waste their summons on your own summons, send in a jelly to waste their major spells (although you will need some fire resistance to protect you from the melf's), then charge in the cavalry once their major spells have been used.

 

OR...cast Breach...then beat them to death with a stick.

 

The Faraaz option always worked for me too. Plus it's quite a bit more efficient.

 

If you use JWN's tactic you may only want to send in your summons one at a time, as IIRC Tolgerias has a number of area effect spells such as chain lightning.

 

Tolgerias is a joke. He can cast Power Word Kill and that's his biggest trick.

 

He also casts abi-dalzim's. ADHW then PW:K is not so much of a joke.

 

Still, I didn't have much trouble on core difficulty...Not the toughest spellcaster in Athkatla, imo.
Aside from that, cloudkill and the various insect summons are always helpful against non-undead mages. Of course, you need to dispell any spell and damage protections first.

 

Another, easier option would be to bash him to death, with your mage just unloading breaches, and the occasional melfs acid arrow.

 

Summon monster(like goblin or so) and beat them once. insect them. kill tolgy.
