Probably haven't used Nalia as a long-term party member since :S

 

My first time playing through I used the following:

Stalker kit Ranger using Longswords and Katanas
Minsc using two handed swords and maces
Anomen using maces and hammers
Jaheira using staves and slings
Edwin using staves and slings
Jan Jansen using crossbows and short swords

I had a blast. I am considering doing another run through, though I need to decide on what class to choose. I am thinking maybe a cleric. Currently I am recovering from a major surgery so the next couple months are freed up and I am replaying a lot of my favorite DnD games. I can't really do much except watch tv go on the computer and focus on recovery I figure why not adventure in the forgotten realms.

 

I'd already played BG for a while when BG2 came out, I was super excited to get it, than of course it didn't work on the computer (needed a new graphics card). When I finally got to play it...

Elvish Fighter/Mage dual wielding long swords and short swords

After BG dual wielding was just the coolest thing ever. I remember I missed out on a lot of stuff though, like the romance (Jaheria got turned to stone at one point), Yoshimo's post-spellhold geas quest thing, etc.

Pretty solid party all in all though could have done with a better thief. I had no idea how to import my Dwarven fighter/cleric from BG1 but he was pretty rubbish anyway.

 

How on earth can you guys remember your very first BG 2 party?

I have absolutely no idea, but I'm sure I had a blast .

I cant remember whether my first playthrough used a Paladin or a mage/sorcerer. Probably a Paladin
The rest of the characters were:

Aerie

And the last two places would have been taken up by two of:
Nalia, Yoshimo or Valygar.

I remember rescuing Imoen for the first time, finding out that she had not gained any levels since she was kidnapped, and leaving her to her fate.

 

Yea, since I had developed Nalia for a good amount of time now, she had all the good spells memorized and much more XP and thus better spells.
The powergamer in me left Imoen to her fate as well .
Nowadays I couldn't do this anymore.
But nowadays I can plan ahead, too ^^.

 

I was 15 at the time...

The latter 4 mainly because we stumbled into them first and I lacked any imagination whatsoever.

And then I romanced Aerie. "you get to sleep with her?!? CAN I HAZ PLZ"

I fondly remember finishing this game and thinking to myself "this is the best game I've ever played, period." I've yet to prove that wrong.

Oddly I never had a mage heavy group again (my character was a conjurer). Boy was I surprised when I got back to the copper coronet after returning from Brynlaw...I definitely had a WHAT JUST HAPPENED look on my face.

 

My first playthrough isn't finished yet. I started playing Shadows of Amn last year, after having been engaged (almost literally ) with Tutu for some years now. I always enjoy creating characters and parties, resulting (with an easy copy-paste maneuvre) in several installs each with it's own character going on at the same time.

My first character was Kheltick, a Blade. My second character caught up with him and is in chapter 6 now, while Kheltick is only in the Sahuagin city. His friends (the modern word would be companions, party members sounds too unemotional) are Keldorn (used to be Minsc as a tank in the beginning), Jaheira, Imoen (replaced by Nalia for a while), Aerie (completed the romance alas, she's a very quiet fiancee right now). And Yoshimo, but anyone who took him along knows how that turns out.

I dropped Nalia for Imoen, as I had used to the NPC-kitpack at the start of BG2 (I modded straight away on my first playthrough) to make Nalia an Adventurer-Mage and Imoen a Thief-Conjuror (the last was an option if you dualed her in vanilla BG1, like I did in my very first ever Baldur's Gate game).

Imoen thus being a specialist, will be a better choice in the long run than Nalia as the lack in xp will be made up in relative terms (600.000 xp less won't matter much by the time level-cap is reached) - I'm not sure if I'm expressing understandably what I was thinking here. Anyhow, I dropped Imoen, but my third character, Amniralda the Totemic, will let find Imoen her own way home once she's freed, as I'm curious for the Nalia banters in the later game - she one of my most liked characters.

 

Huh? What happens when you go back to the Copper Coronet after Brynnlaw?

 

Well I left Yoshimo and when I came back he spontaneously...well you know and that was a surprise as you can see him from the door. When it happened I was really confused until the next game when I brought him with me to Brynlaw then it all made sense.

Having just started the game and only on level 2, I can say the game
is a little more interesting then BGI.

My first party was a fighter/thief (Raptor), and I
booted Imoen early, grabbed Minsc and Jaheira.

But since I have that dreaded restart disease like someone else mentioned,
I have started a two person run, importing Raptor and teaming him with a female ranger. Love those bow and arrows.
Just about to finish the first level with Raptor and Wyvern.

Of course when reading this forumn I came accross a thread about soloing with a Sorcerer, so we started a run with Lord Dragonwing last night.

I may never get all the way thru the game, as I have great fun is creating a character and providing them with equiptment.
But having fun is what its all about.

had to stop in between and replace keldorn with Mazzy, (he fought with Vicky...)

then i added sarevok instead of Mazzy in Tob
