Which items (if any) do you ban to avoid cheese?

Answering another post made me curious.

I rarely install other difficulty enhancing mods besides Ascension.
Nevertheless I find some portions of the game too easily abusable.

So I impose upon myself a kind of self restricting codex when playing BG2,
which works pretty well for me.
    Which would be by skipping:
    - the anti magic and anti undead green scrolls
    - Balduran shield and this spell deflecting cloak
    - most potions other than healing and haste and all wands (this is more a lazyness thing, I guess)

Anyone else using a personal list out ther :)?

My apologies for not being more helpful but I don't think I'd ban any.

Sometimes I establish rules for myself which make a game more complicated or time consuming to play.

But other days I say "have at it" and embrace :D the cheese (while carrying out the quest :tobattle: for the greater cheese of course).

Now before you shake your head consider a few things.

First I often don't do what you worry about anyway (I hoard potions for when I really really need them to the point they are dead weight and often get sold.

I just don't bother with haste (to lazy?)

And I'm sometimes so stubborn that if I forget cheese before I start on a given quest and I push through regardless.

The Ai uses cheese all the time, there is no reasonable reason : ) to make things easier on it!

[IMG] I don't ban things intentionally but things like the green scrolls and most potions I usually just don't think of using... then I get to a shop and think "Oh, I'll need that later" :shake:

It is more of a personal play style what I'm doing, so there is nothing wrong with other play styles, in the end the game should be enjoyed.

Omitting the Balduran shield, for ex., adds simply more fun for me by having to rely on advanced tactics when fighting Beholders other than tank them and kill them like cheap Goblins ^^.
The first time I used it, of course, but then it gets boring in other playthroughs.

Isnt the shield of Balduran added through a mod anyway? Since I dont play with any mods, except voice sets and portraits, Ive never experienced these cheesy items anyway, and beholders remain my sworn enemy.

as for scrolls and potions, and wands, I forgfet they even exist, so I end up with bags and scroll cases full of the things.

Yes, the Shield of Balduran is one of the items you can buy from Deidre in the Adventurer's Mart if you have the Bonus Merchants pack from Bioware.

On a normal play through I don't ban any items, although I don't just do it for power gaming there is a role playing reason behind it. The protagnist is one of the most powerful Bhaal spawns, why shouldn't he/she be an intimidating force on the field of battle? I like to have a very powerful protagnist, it only makes sense within the context of the game. They are beyond that of a normal mortal so their fighting abilities should reflect that.

I can definitely see why you would restrict those items. I have completed the game using a Stalker ranger kit without the cloak and I have never used the shield, i dont have the extra merchants. The cloak makes the game easier, but I think it is exaggerated how cheap it really is. This discussion has made me want to start up Baldur's Gate 2 again!
