Nowadays, sport feuds are usually scripted, rehearsed and performed. Sooooo boring. That is especially true for wrestling, but has become equally true for boxing. IMO it is to be expected as the norm as PR professionalism and commercialisation dominate sports.

Team sports are somewhat different still, but I expect that to change into that direction also.

It's really a joke that they have included Hamilton vs. Alonso which lasted a whooping year and forgot Senna vs. Prost which dominated F1 for half a decade. The two rivalries are not even comparable. Oh well, the list is not really interesting anyhow since it mostly includes American sports so I had not even heard about most of them.

I agree with Ragusa though that most rivalries are if not completely invented then at least blown out of proportion by the media which loves create controversy even if there really is none.

    Baseball:

    Yankees-Red Sox

    Cowboys-Redskins
    Eagles-Giants
    Steelers-Ravens (formerly the Browns)
    Packers-Bears

Celtics-Lakers (even though not in the same conference)
    LeBron-Everyone else

    Hockey:

    Canadiens-Bruins
    Red Wings-Blackhawks

I think that should be Eagles-Cowboys. They really HATE each other. Giants too, but the Boyz way more. Players and fans alike. Hell, remember when Buddy Ryan sent Andre Waters in on a Dallas Kickoff to take out Zendejas, the kicker. I love Buddy Ryan...

I think any pairing of NFC East teams is a pretty good rivalry. You could do Giants-Skins or Giants-Cowboys too. Pretty much all four teams in that division hate the other three. It just seems like historically, the Skins and Cowboys are good at the same time, and the Eagles and Giants are good at the same time. The Giants-Eagles has been the hottest most recently, but in the early 90s, the Redskins-Cowboys were the hotter commodity. But yeah, Cowboys and Eagles fans are going to hug it out any time soon either.

    In European soccer:

    FC Barcelona vs. Réal Madrid
    Glasgow Rangers vs. Celtics

There are plenty of rivalries between soccer clubs over here but I doubt if any are quite as acrimonious as these two.

Surely we're talking about individuals? If we're talking about team rivalries I could write you a post a page long.

For Keano "any opposition player" is far too limiting, he didn't exactly get on with his international manager or some of his teammates. Walking out of the World Cup and all that. Though Vieira is the best. I remember one game where the referee had to stop play for an injury and restart with a drop ball. When Keane and Vieira showed up for it the ref sent them away and demanded a different pairing.

McEnroe Borg was supposed to have been good, not that I was alive for it.

I find team rivalries far more riveting. All of the major sports the world over are team sports. If we're limited to individual sports, you basically have golf, tennis, and skiing (and if I considered it a sport, I'd include all forms of auto racing, inculding, but not limited to, NASCAR - and even they have pit crews). There are other individual sports that people watch for the Olympics but don't follow closely at other times.

So most rivalries - even if they are against two players, take place within the context of "team". It's not really Ovechkin vs. Crosby, because it's in the context of Capitals vs. Penguins. It doesn't matter which individual player has the better game if his team doesn't win.
