Experimenting with right clicking and left clicking should lead to a full list of your spells. You can only show a few in your usual toolbar anyway.
If they don't appear in your usual list of spells, something is wrong but I don't know what.
Check your spellbook to make sure that the player actually received the spells in the first place.

i tried the experimenting with left and right clicking cause that's what i figured would do the trick. but it seems that my bottom toolbar (including the expanded list of spells (F7)) is stuck with what's currently showing. the new spells are in my mage book just fine with the rest of my spells.

i'm new to the game. but it doesn't feel like anything is wrong. i just think i'm missing out on how to use the tool bar. how would i go about taking spells out of it and putting in new ones?

There is no Customize Toolbar here, you can only alter one button at a time. Also you can only alter the toolbar of the currently selected PC.
Right clicking on an individual button should lead to a display of choices. One of those choices should be the Cast Spell button. Right clicking on that should lead to a horizontal menu of your currently memorized spells, you can only choose a spell that is castable/currently memorized. Left click to choose among the spells.
I only display two spell buttons and the generic Cast Spells button.

Ah stupid question but have you rested? New spells wont appear in your castable spells list until you rest, unlike IWD2 in which they appear immediately.
