If I select any of the "attack" flavor AIs my Sorc starts each day off throwing Cone of Cold and half-killing my party members.

If I select any of the "defense" flavor, she chain Ray of Enfeebles herself.

Is this a bug, known issue, or am I selecting a bad AI?

I don't use ai scripts for my party. I used to when the game was new, but scripts are of no use to me since I give individual orders to every character each combat round.
Sorry if this reply is of little help to you, but since no one else had answered...

Just like Earl Gray I'm not using any scripts except for my fighters. It's ratter annoying to aim and click at every frikkin´ kobold... Since my mage usually use different spells for every situation and enemy I never even considered to use a mage-script but I read them. And your description seems to fit exactly to what I read. The game A.I automatically chooses the best offensive/defensive spell that you have memorized and then use it not considering what so ever is getting hit.

I doubt a mod can change this "problem" of yours. What seems to be the real problem is the lack of a A.I equally smart as you and me ;)

I don't use scripts either... To me they are just a waste of time, since i, as Earl Grey, give orders to my chars each round...

The only script i ever use is the thief script which makes your thief search for traps all the time...

I run 3 casters, all that spell selecting is annoying, was nice early on to have my Sorc throwing sleep around and chromatic orbs...tend to focus on driving my melees and letting my casters go AI (hate having 3 fighters on 3 MOBs)

Guess I'll just have to do it the hard way.

On the subject, can you create new scripts for BG2 (I have ToB also if that affects the answer)?

Yes, you can create your own scripts, it's actually fairly easy to do.

See IESDP for a complete listing.

Its generally considered a bad idea to use scripts for spell casters, as the number of spells you can remember are precious few...and they usually have crappy AI. Also, its a bit difficult to write effective scripts for spell-casting, and the situations can be extremely varied, with varied spell-casting as well in BG2, as opposed to say, IWD2.

What you could do is just micro-manage your sorcerer. It CAN be a pain, but its the best way to get results.
