Why do we find this game fun?? I'm not bashing the game, i like it as much as any of you but why do we like it so much? It requires no skill, we just click and our characters bash, its like a movie. There is the slight roleplaying aspect but there isnt much, no multiple endings so why do you guys like the game(or in the case of Extremist why do you hate it ;)) I don't know why i like it, i guess i just do.

I roleplay it indeed. Especially with this insane project of mine.

First, there's a good story to follow. I've tried to stay away from spoilers on this site (though some have slipped through), so I'm playing it almost as much to find out how it all turns out, as I am to develop a great character.

Second, it's not all click and bash. There are spells to prepare for battle, spells for during battle- you've got to know a lot about spells and your enemy to know when and where to use spells most efficiently. There's the choice of weapons: "should I equip Minsc with the +3 talking sword or the +2 mace with a chance to kill undead for this next area?" There are also a number of strategies you can use in melee battle, you don't need to stand there and do the old give-n-take. Try equipping someone who has Flail of the Ages or Celestial Fury with the boots of speed and try to hit each monster in a battle once for the chance to slow or stun, and let your other front line NPCs finish them off.

And last there are so many classes to choose from that there'll be one for just about anyone's playing style. And if you want to play with a different style yourself, you can simply try a character type you've never played and start a new game.

[Edited to correct horrendous spelling mistakes.]

[IMG] I think it also has to do with the basic topic: medieval supernatural escapism. We all need an escape from real life every once in a while. For many of us, if the escape involves supernatural action, it is more entertaining. Also, I think most have us have not truly grown up :) I know one of the reasons I like this stuff now is because, back when I was 12 and playing the PnP game, I always thought "how cool is this!?" or "Wouldn't it be cool if you could see these things in action?" There's plenty of that residue on my psyche still :) (This is also why I loved the movie "X-Men")

I like the game because I played AD&D for some time and I'm really into the fantasy-scene, I'm a great fan of the works of Tolkien and love rollplaying-games... especially when based on AD&D.

    It is geat to roleplay!
But i think there is a great aspect of strategy aswell. Diablo is considered more interactive but all it has is the fact that you click for every stroke of the sword.
I think bg2 is great and there is just something that makes you sit in your english class and long to play it when you get home
