    I lean towards great.

Disney bought Marvel Studios and were smart enough to pretty much let them do what they want. The result? The Avengers made a bajillion dollars. They're not going to screw around with Star Wars. If the crappy prequels can make a bajillion dollars despite being crappy, then well-written, well-cast, well-made new films in an indefinite series will make bajillions upon bajillions of dollars.

What director in Hollywood would not jump at the chance to direct a new Star Wars series? They will have their pick. Joss Whedon (Avengers), David Fincher (got his career start at LucasFilm), and Peter Jackson all come to mind as top candidates. They won't screw around, trust me.

Didn't Disney also do "John Carter"? That was terrible at best. Hoping they do a better job with SW.

    DMC,

Let your inner geek out and admit you are a closet SW lover...ADMIT IT!

Seriously, with the mega-"bajillions" potential that DR talks about, he is right, they should be able to make something great. As long as they don't screw up the storyline, they should be golden.

    @ Blades,

That's true, but owning a studio isn't the same thing as being the studio. Disney Pictures is Disney's film studio and a separate company - and they made John Carter, not Disney the parent corporation. They just own Disney Pictures, in the same way that they own Marvel Studios. The studios operate more or less on their own. Thankfully for us, Disney saw fit to let Marvel do its own thing, and the results have been great for fans. I can't imagine they'll mess with LucasFilm, considering the insanely talented folks who work there.

Also, John Carter was a major disaster for Disney - a loss of something close to a billion dollars, and one of the biggest financial movie failures in history. Even if all the key players involved in that mess weren't run out of town on spikes – and they were – there's no way they'd risk that happening again on the most lucrative IP on earth. John Carter was a gamble of a passion project from a loony studio head that didn't pay off. Star Wars is a guaranteed hit, so they're not going to put some unknown director on it. They'll get the best director money can buy. Now that George Lucas can't ruin things by declaring himself said director, I don't see how we can lose.

The last 3 were just a ****ing train wreck. I hated them. Thing is though, you could sell a giant turd with a bow on it saying 'Star Wars', and it'd still sell.

I imagine it been set post Skywalker - after his exile - but before the Legacy book/comic series, as there is about 100 years there which don't have a lot of canon, yet are close enough to the end of the Return of the Jedi that at least somethings would be vaguely similar (40-130 years after, iirc).

My sentiments are the same as dmc's. My only real reactions was over the amount of money involved.

    Don't forget about Woody Allen!

If a new Star Wars movie comes out, I'll be in the line to watch it.

I am kind of on the fence. In one way, if George Lucas feels he has nothing more to contribute to the franchise, it is perfectly understandable, and quite a fat payment as well.

As for that new SW movie... I most definitively would watch it. 4, 5 and 6 are gems... but the first three? Meh. 3 has it's moments, but 1 and 2 were disappointing, IMO.

We'll see what Disney does with the franchise. I feel it either will be shining success, or abysmal failure.

And keep Disney World in mind as well, maybe we will see some sweet SW related stuff pop up. Who knows?
