Ioun Stones

I've heard some people say info about the presence of "Ioun Stones." What are they and why in the world do they go with your headgear. (How do Characters use them? Does a floating stone animation appear somewhere in their head? :))

I've always thought these were odd b/c they are called "stones" but they are more like hats. I think they are supposed to be the chain-mail like haed pieces that knights used to wear under their helmets, but I could be wrong.

    Not bad regeneration stats, though.

Ioun stones are supposed to orbit around the head of the user, but there is no animation for this in BG2.

when you get them you just place them in the helmet slot.....i have already posted a list in TOB but that would spoil so here is a cut one......:

    Dusty Rose Ioun Stone.
This Ioun stone glows with a dusty rose hue, hinting at calming images and sensations. While pleasing, it does not appear to enhance the basic protection enchantment upon it.

    Pale green ioun stone:
On his deathbed, aged hero Rigar TrueBlood begged one last request of his mage companion Spectorial: that his skill and fortitude as a warrior live on. The reluctant friend consented and transferred these traits to an item, knowing the warrior's soul would then be lacking them. This pale green Ioun stone now holds these essences, and grants the owner TrueBlood's health and skill.

    Pearly white ioun stone:
Legend tells us that this particular type of ioun stone is crafted with the enslaved soul of a troll. This pearly white ioun stone will grant the wearer the ability to regenerate at a rate of 2 hit points per minute.

Abilities: Regenerate 2 hit points every minute
