Renal's quests

    In the first quest Renal gives you to prove your worth he asks you to steal something from a temple. The first time I went through it was Lathander - all well and good for an evil guy. But now my party is being asked to give him the necklace of Chaos. My party includes a Talassan priest, whom I want to wear the thing - how do I get him to give me the stealing from Lathander quest instead?

    Renal Bloodsclap is the sub-commander of the shadow thieves, subordinate to Aran Linvail, the master of the shadow thieves guild.

    Renal gives you the quest to gather information against his colleague thief Maer`Var. However, Maer´Var is the guy who orders you to steal the necklace of talos as a proof of your thiving capabilities and your loyalty. IIRC It depends on your main char´s alignment where you have to steal, leave your talasian where he can´t see anything ;)

    Btw: pickpocketing the necklace gives you more XP than simply stealing it.

    My main char is lawful evil, so I thought that would mean I had to steal from lathander - could it be because I already have the necklace (I thought it would be cool for my Talassan to wear it all the time). Would stealing the statue then talking to Mae'Var help?
    PS I'm not very net-savvy so what does IIRC stand for?

    IIRC = if I remember correctly :) So your main char´s evil? Too bad - such a lousy end for a good theory - <hopefully> but perhaps it´s a bug!? :D

    I found out what it was. It turns out that my problem was a too high reputation but putting Viconia in the party sorted that one nicely.

    Ah. I thing I will never understand is why an evil char should be unhappy with a good reputation. It´s far easier to be evil when people believe you to be good - so why complain?

    Grinch - the quest seems to be reputation dependent. With rep 12 I get the stealing from Talos quest, with rep 10 I get the stealing from Lathander quest
