Ok, hopefully someone here can help me because I hear BioWares support is dead (Emailed them already, but I don't think I'll get a reply.) and the support on the forum is really slow.

I got Baldurs Gate II The Collection yesterday and knew that I would have problems installing it under WinXP, but had read all over that there were simple fixes for this. Just my luck, none of them work. I can't get my system to even recognize that the first disk is in the drive. Disk 2, 3, and 4 all work, but not Disk 1. I thought this was a problem and returned the game, got a new one, still having the same problem.

I downloaded SafeDisc which is supposed to correct the exact problem I'm having, but it didn't. I downloaded Windows Installer which was recommended on the support form and support FAQ, but it didn't work either. I tried using the compatibilty wizard on WinXP, but since I can't get anything to recognize the CD, it didn't work either.

Totally lost on what to do, any help would be great.
    Thanks.

Um, okay. I'm gonna need more info about your O/S; what type of XP (Pro or Home) which Service Packs you've got installed, etc.

    Because I have:

    Microsoft Windows XP
    Home Edition
    Version 2002
    Service Pack 2

for my System Info, and I'm installing off of the BG2 coll. CD #1 (SoA Disc 1) fine right now (wait, just asked me for disc 2...)

I'll assume this isn't an AutoPlay issue - I've got that disabled and I had to start the installer myself. :bad:

Well, hopefully we can track this down for you with just a little more investigation...

SP1, last time I tried to update to SP2 my whole system crashed.

And no, I don't believe it's an autoplay issue either since any other CD I try starts right up.

Edit, just updated to SP2 and still have the same problem.

Did you try to manually start the installer on disc one?

Another solution might be to make an ISO of disc 1 with a program like nero or alcohol 120%, load it with deamon tools and try your luck this way.
I don't know why, but this has worked for me with some games that i've had similar issues with.

How would I manually start the disc?

I don't know if I'd be able to use Alcohol or Deamon Tools if I can't get my computer to recognize the disc at all, would I?
Well, I'll give it a try.

What shows up when you look at your CD Rom drive under My Computer? Anything at all? Or can you explore the disks contents? I had a problem where I couldn't read some disks, and it turned out to be a bad CD Rom drive.

Nothing shows up at all when I look at the drive for Disk 1, my computer just doesn't recognize that there is a CD. Disk 2, 3, and 4 all show files though and I don't have this problem with any other game, music, ect. CDs.

The smae thing happened with both copies of the game too, huh! I know when my CD drive went it would read some but disks, but not others, other than that, I have no idea, it would seem unlikely that both copies of the disk would be corrupted. Do you have another PC you could try the disk on?

No, I don't. I'm going to give the CDs to a friend to see if they work for him though.
