whoa the demons in this game are bad.

i ahve been doing my reading on several of the Demons from both the 3rd and 2nd ed books. NONE of which are as they are meant to be really. The Balor is okay... i'll let them off for him but some of the others they should not be forgiven for!

a pit fiend? whot? they are modelled nothing like they should be... a Pit Fiend should have wings for a start, even though they managed to get the firball thing right.

glabrezu? big nasty looking guys... no wings... large clawed hands... NO paralyzing gaze... among other things!

it can't have been too much troble for Black Isle to make a few nice looking Demon models... in Planescape.. there is only ever one Glabrezu... yet they made it's own unique model... so why not in BG2... which is meant to be so much the better game?

oooooh dear... i am quite ashamed...

Well, I don't think that the models were bad, just...different.

The models I really have to complain about are the golems. In Icewind Dale, every golem looked different, but in BG2, size and color were the only way to tell the species apart.

[IMG] Aha! This is one instant in which I can say you're wrong Sapiryl. The models DO suck.

The Nabassu, Balor and Glabreazu share the same model! That generic Tanariri model would've done well for a Nabassu, but not for all THREE!

The cambion and the demon knights share the same models.

The Pit Fiend model looks more like a DUMB BEAST than a creature with super-genius level intelligence.

And to add insult to injury all the "demons" with the exception of the demon knights can't really fight. They can only bully low level characters.

Here's the AD&D definition of a pit fiend.

Pit Fiend: The most terrible baatezu of the Nine Hells, pit fiends appear to be giant, winged humanoids, very much like gargoyles in appearance, with huge wings that wrap around their bodies for defense. Pit fiend's fangs are large and drip with a vile, green liquid. Their bodies are red and scaly, often emitting flames when they are angered or excited. In the rare situations they choose to communicate, they use telepathy.

Combat: In physical combat, the pit fiend is capable of dealing out tremendous punishment, using its incredible 18/00 Strength (+6 damage adjustment). They can attack six times in a single round, dividing attacks against six different opponents. They can attack with two hard, scaly wing buffets for 1-4 points of damage per hit. Their powerful claws do 1-6 points of damage per successful attack. The bite of a pit fiend is dreadful indeed, causing any creature bitten to take 2-12 points of damage and receive a lethal dose of poison. A saving throw vs. poison is required or the victim dies in 1-4 rounds. The bite also infects the victim with a disease.
Pit fiends can also attack with their tail every round, inflicting 2-8 points of damage per hit. The tail can then hold and constrict the victim for 2-8 points of damage per round until the victim makes a successful Strength check to break free. Pit fiends can also carry jagged-toothed clubs which inflict 7-12 points of damage per hit (this replaces one claw attack).
Once per round a pit fiend can use one of the following spell-like powers, plus those available to all baatezu: detect magic, detect invisibility, fireball, hold person, improved invisibility, polymorph self, produce flame, pyrotechnics, and wall of fire.
They can, once per year, cast a wish spell. They may always gate in two lesser or one greater baatezu with a 100% chance of success, performing this action once per round. Once per day, a pit fiend can use a symbol of pain -- the victim must save vs. rod, staff or wand or suffer a -4 penalty on attack dice, and a -2 penalty to Dexterity for 2-20 rounds.
Pit fiends regenerate 2 hit points per round and radiate a fear aura in a 20-foot radius (save vs. rod, staff, or wand at a -3 penalty or flee in panic for 1-10 rounds).

Habitat/Society: Pit fiends are the lords of the Nine Hells. They are the baatezu of the greatest power and the highest station. Pit fiends are found throughout the various layers of the Nine Hells, but are very rare on the upper layers.
Wherever they are found, these mighty lords hold a position of great authority and power. They sometimes command vast legions consisting of dozens of complete armies, leading them into battle against the tanar'ri. These huge forces are terrifying to behold, and any non-native of the lower planes, of less than 10 Hit Dice, who sees them, flees in panic for 1-3 days. Those of 10 Hit Dice or more must make a saving throw vs. rod, staff, or wand or flee in panic for 1-12 turns.

Ecology: Pit fiends are spawned from the powerful gelugons of the Nine Hells' eighth layer. When those icy fiends are found worthy they are cast into the Pit of Flame for 1,001 days after which they emerge as pit fiends.

[IMG] Yeah, they're terrible, all of the Baatezu and Tanar'ri in the game. Remember the horror that befell you when first facing the Demon Knight in Durlag's Tower ? Or the creeps you got after being slaughtered mercilessly by that demon, that Tanar'ri in Ulgoth's Beard ? Or the terror when suddenly one of those Frost Giants showed up in Dorn's Deep ? Gosh, even the first Ettin you came across in IWD was scary. Only the Dragons in BG2 could more or less equal those effects, which is pretty louzy considering all the monsters they've included in the game.

Why didn't they keep the IWD-models for the Golems ? Why did they took the BG-fireballs instead of IWD's ? When you come to think of it, BG2 could have been so much better..

I doubt that very much since Bioware is making Throne of Bhaal, not Black Isle. :p

Hey Guys, save the wining! I only played BG1 and started at Planescape Torment, but I was just out of that mortuary when I started playing BG2. So I don't know nothing about the graphics and golems and stuff in IcewindDale and Planescape. So I have nothing to complain! Easy! If you've never seen something before, the first time you see it, you'll create a picture of it. 'My' Golems look very cool!

Could anyone make something that replaces the avatars (or paper dolls) of BGII with the ones from BG and IWD, cause they really suck in BGII

[IMG] Throughout the whole game, there are only THREE demon models.

The winged red creature with the big mouth, the dumb slimy looking animal with four arms, and some wierdo in kinky armour holding a big knife.

    Oh yeah, I'm impressed.

Bioware aren't completely clueless. Heck, they seem to know enough, but then why would they do this? Glabrezu in hand to hand???
