I wanted to know what spells people would pick for a sorcerer and any other info that might be usefull about sorcerers. Please don't tell me to read the sorcerers guide that is on this site. I have already read it and I was wondering if there were any other opinions on this. Also if someone has played as one before I would like to know how that went.

Archer, I hope someone tells you as I too am curious. Why would anyone play a sorcerer? That wild surge thing sounds like a big pain in the butt.

Actualy a wild surge goes with a wild mage, not a sorcerer. A wild mage is a kit for the mage that you get when you install Throne of Bhaal. A sorcerer is like a mage but knows less spells but can cast them more often without sleeping as much.

    I just love sorceress :)
A sorceress is to the mage class as the Kensai is to the fighters I think.

They are born with the abillity to cast any wizard spell. They may only pick 5 spells from each spell level, so you dont have to find scrolls and memorize the spells you wich to use that alone is very usefull I think :) . They may also cast More spells per day than a mage. Since you dont need to memorize spells there is no point in spending points in Int. and Wis. You can put those points into Str, Dex, Con and Charisma.

So not only can you cast powerfull spells, You have good stats too.

I think it is well enugh with 5 spells from each spell level, I mean I dont use that many spells.

Do you have any suggestions for what spells to use though?

The best character I have ever played was an elven Sorcerer. A tip is to choose the spells you found yourself using OVER and OVER in previous games, not the ones you used... eh, once or twice.

  10. Yeah, sorcerers rock. The downside is that you have to be really careful with which spells you choose. Make sure not to choose the familiar spell because you can only cast it once. Use a scroll to cast it. If you made a bad choice there is no way to change the spell unless you have a previous savegame or use ShadowKeeper. Use don't abuse:).

[IMG] I play sorcerer in one game, just started chpter 4, and I gotta give it to her, she's been unbelivable help.
YOu might want to think about you other party members so that you can maximize spells and other abilities. I am reffering to fact that I have assasin in party too, and didn't bother to put any points in lock pickinig since I have 7 knocks memorised (you get amulet to give you one extra 2nd level spell, and there aren't taht many good spells on that level). Which made my assasin deadly as well.
It is different to play sorcerer that to play mage, you end up with huge number of scrolls after first few chapters, I have 3 containers..all full. Sorcerer is always prepared for any situation, if you chose right spells, because you don't need to memorize them (if needed you can cast 3 pierce magics, withouth the need to memorize them first).
True, you don't get exp for learning, and there are fewer spells in your mage book, but I think not that shall be any problem.
Make sure you get good spells, like emotion, malison, breach, stoneskin, fire arrow, resistance to fear, lower resistance...make sure you read sorcerers spell guide, it makes all much easier. And then you ahve your style of playing, which will affect the game as well.
After obtaining Staff of Magi in chapter 2, she's cleared few areas by herself (staff of air for summons).

I agree pretty much with what Maertyn listed, the only thing I'll mention is to remember items in the game which can substitute for spells... e.g. the Wand of Cloudkill can be used instead of the spell Cloudkill, same with Fireball, Lightning, Cone of Cold, etc. There's also the Ring of Air Control which will give you Improved Invisibilty.

Covenant -- take the knock spells over all that xp you get picking locks??? There's like 20 grand worth of xp lock-picking in Maevar's guild alone.. As far as I'm concerned, the knock spell is a must for solo sorcerers only, otherwise a redundancy.

Gonzago: yes there is some exp in lock picking, but not _that_ much so it can affect the game. I have some points in lock picking, but since my thief is assasin I decided to put points on important traits for her: move silently, hide, set trap.
I still open few locks here and there, but those that she can't open, I open with knock.
In shadow thief guild, she was lvl 12 or 13, and could open 6 out of 10 doors (remember that room with bunch of doors to open).

    Stats:
    Lvl 15 assasin, elf, female
    Base:
    Open locks:--55-------95**
    Find traps:--70
    Pick pocket:-35--55*--95**
    Move silent:-60--80*
    Hide:--------90--110*
    Detect Ill:--10--
    Set traps:---80--100*

*With Gloves of pickpocketing and mercykiller ring equipped.

** after potion of master thievery is taken.

As you can see it's not that hard to boost some of those lower stats up, it's done as needed.
And therfore I find knock spell rather good, since it's lvl 2 spell, it won't take place of some better. Been working out good so far.
