Sorry chaps and chapesses - I know I'll get some stick for this, but I've been wondering what to play next time round that will be better than my paladin, and can't think of anything. Ever since 'acquiring' Corsamyr from Firkraag I've become a firm believer in the power of Righteousness...

I played a Paladin in Baldur's Gate and in Icewind Dale. That's it for me, had to switch it up to something a little more meaner, uglier and down right nasty! Half-Orc Barbarian!

Paladins are nice to play, but they aren't very well done in CRPGs and I found when I played as a Paladin, it was just a glorified version of the Fighter class. In pen and paper, at least you know the difference, have to act the difference or else. CRPGs are so limited sometimes that playing certain classes simply isn't worth it.

SPOILER about getting elven chain early in the game....

As to the poll, I'm playing a Swashbuckler dualed to Mage at L11 and it's fun after your Swashbuckler abilities have become active again. +3 to THAC0 and AC, very nice. 3 attacks per round with dual-wielded scimitars (from Belm +2), even better. Add Tenser's Transformation and we'll see how the illithid fare against this "wizard".

Yo'llu find Elven Chainmail early in the game if you ally with the vampires. Kill Aran Linvail for Bodhi - he has it, and there are some nice items on his cronies too.

You can also get elven mail at Trademeet if you go for thedueling families sub-plot and give the mantle to any of the families.
