[IMG] Question ---- Is there a way for a Ranger or Paladin to do the Windspear Hills quest without losing their “Stronghold” (Because of killing the Knights of the Radiant Heart)?

Why would a paladin "lose" his/her stronghold, since you have to do the quest before you even get it?

As for the ranger, well... I wasn't even aware that you could lose your stronghold this way.

You become fallen by doing evil, but this doesn't count as it needs to be done to complete mission. So go ahead.

You do not lose you "Stronghold" by killing the paladins, as you were trick by an illusion.

Once you finish the quest, everything will be straight out!

It is more likely that you did something during your stronghold quests that made you lose it.

EDIT: Unless it is temporary until you've done the quest and Mr. What-was-his-name Windspear has cleared your reputation?

What is considered finished, The daughter is rescued and the Dragon dead and I still do not have my ranger cabin back I left the acorns inside the cabin that need to be delivered to Windspear.

The Ranger stronghold is completely useless (as far as I have seen - but I have been known to be mistaken before) so I wouldn't worry about it. A cabin that is miles away from anything. What is the point of it?

Harbourboy: You get a few points of xp and a pretty - but rather useless - statue. :p

Korick: Then you've probably just upset the people of Umar Hills, and it had nothing to do with the quest.

Just a thought he is the only person that witnesses me killing the Knights anyway so how does everyone know I killed them? (Or are those squirrels in the woods blabber mouths)

OK to the main point I left a bunch of stuff in the ranger cabin I can not get now. ( You know the old trick of storing stuff you want later in a chest or barrel.)

I will go ahead and clear out the rest of the ruined Keep and see if that fixes the problem.

Have you talked to the Mayor? He might tell you what happened. Did you talk with the girl's father after rescuing her?

I think the most common way to mess up the Ranger Stronghold is to give the kids the swords and alcohol. You need to rescue them before they do something stupid -- if you're gone, you can't rescue them (I believe it's timed).

There also appears to be a bug in the messenger for the ranger stronghold -- sometimes he doesn't show, but the timer to complete the quest is still running. If you don't check back with the mayor every 2-3 days you could lose the stronghold.

As far as getting your stuff.... You could cheat your way back to having the stronghold and just walk in. Or you could 'warp' yourself into the ranger stronghold. I've never done either of these, but someone here should be able to help. Both methods are probably on SP somewhere.

I talked to the mayor he is the one who told me I was not worthy of my Ranger status anymore. My Reputation is still 20 so I have no idea what is the problem, and I did not give the kids ale or the swords.

PS The Point is I have never played a Ranger and I thought a ranger Cabin would be the logical thing for a ranger to do that was romancing Jaheira. When I use to play this game it was with paper, pencil, dice and Gary Gygax’s books and you were suppose to character role-play.

I can't remember anymore what you have to do to save the kids?

And is saving them a ranger only thing?

    Ok, I did a test I had a save file for right before I went to windspear Hills. SO, I loaded that and went to Windspear and had the required fight and the want straight back to Umar and I had not lost my ranger cabin so thinking about it must have been something else (like killing the two orcs that tried to surrender in the Ruin keep). {[Off the subject but does any know if changing Viconia's alignment to netural good has an effect on the game.]}

Talk to the mayor. Every two or three days. You can't count on the messenger showing up and telling you you're needed. If you're not a fallen ranger, you shouldn't lose the stronghold (so killing the orcs shouldn't matter).

The key is you MUST save the town from every threat within a specified timeframe. If you get there to late, you lose the stronghold.

Um, saving? Unless you mean saving them from themselves by not giving them ale and swords. You really don't have to do anything at all with the Umar kids (and the reward for giving them the ale and swords is rather piddly, anyway).
I'm assuming you SKed that since doing it in-game is impossible (even Viconia's redemption in her ToB romance only gets her up to TN). It shouldn't affect anything.

BTW, if you're used to character role-play, then why in the world did you kill the orcs? They had surrendered; no good character would kill them simply for being orcs if they surrendered. (I'd leave them alone just in case, anyway.)

    Teenagers with alcohol and arms....

Aldeth gave this bit of info last year:

If you gave them the swords and ale, you need to save them from themselves. I do not believe it is only a ranger thing, but the ranger can lose his/her stronghold over it.

As I recall the two in that room aren't even worth it from a power gaming standpoint. As I recall the couple that give up are only worth about 14xp a piece even if you do kill them. It's not worth it.

I cast detect evil on those wimpy orcs once and they were evil so I killed 'em even though they surrendered and I felt sorry for them. They would'a done baaaad things if i let 'em go! Probably to the chickens in the Umar Hills! (I doubt they could catch those blabbermouth squirrels) :D

Hey Thanks T2Bruno, I did not get there in time to save the town while I was in Windspear Hills. So I think that was probally the issue.
