There are many spells for cutting through magic defenses and/or neutralizing magic enhancements on enemies. What are the best at A. low levels and B. mid levels. my mage character hasn't achieved high enough level to memorize the better spells like Ruby Ray of Reversal although I do have it on scroll.

Breach and holy word usually dispel most of the common protections like Stoneskin, etc. Of course the best spell for dispelling is Khelben's Warding Whip but it's a high level spell.

the best non-mage dispell magic is that of the inquisitor paladin (specialised in fighting evil wizards). It cracks almost *any* magic protection easily for it has (iirc) the power of a wizard of double pally level => inquisitor level 15 equals mage level 30, that´s what makes it so nice to have Kheldorn in your party ;)

[IMG] I agree with Ragusa on the Inquisitors Dispel Magic - it's one of the things I like to preach about. ;)

I don't agree with Igor's evaluation of Khelbens Warding Whip. It does not affect Spell Trap because that's a 9th level spell. IMO Ruby Ray of Reversal is better.

[IMG] You may be thinking of pierce magic? I like Breach, and then Pierce and then lower resistance while my non-mages whack away. The dispel for the Paladin is awesome, it has rarely failed me. I have that Inquisitor NPC at like level 17 right now. He's good to have in the party. Unfortunately, sometimes while dispelling the enemy, he dispels me, too. Breach and Pierce IIRC are only one level apart, maybe 5th and 6th.

I think that breach is the best lower level spell for that purpose, and pierce magic works great. For the high levels though(once you get there) you'll forget you even have them because of Kelbens Warding Whip, the best dispeller in the game IMHO.

(i haven't used an inquisitor so i wouldn't know. Keldorn just disappearded on me the one time i had hime in my party.)

ruby ray and breach, then the wizards will fall to your warriors really fast

Breach will not work against a lich. Something to do with the lich being immune to level 6 and below spells (?), or is that Rakshasa?, I can't remember but anyway Breach won't do anything against them. Mazzy with a barrage of acid arrows sure will though ;) and that's my best dispeller.

  11. 1. I think Khelben's Warding Whip is a goodie.
    2. Breach and Pierce Magic, to different uses, can't really tell wich one is the best there.
    3. Secret Word, nah...
    4. Dispell, yuck! Hate that spell. 'Cause it affects me party members also.
    5. Ruby Ray of Reversal, haven't found yet, where can i find it?

i donno but ive also noticed that with your bowmans you can dispel almost anything with the arrows of dispel, at least it worked great for me :D

You can't dispel those annoying protection from magic weapons and mantles and such which is why breach is always handy. I personally use the arrows to shoot my own party memembers to get rid of bad affects. Hurts them less than hitting them with the Carsomyr. :)

The reason breach probably doesn't work on liches is because they have all these other spell protections which you have to remove before you can cast breach and remove the combat protections which is why i think Khelben's whip is the best dispeller since it'll keep removing protections.

Pierce shield is also good, pretty much an improved pierce magic.

And spellstrike, can't forget that even though it's a level 9 spell.
