[IMG] There is no the "best class". All classes are good. If you know how to use them.

There can be only best player with some class. For example, I'd die to beat the skill of halfling cavalier hottie. ;) ;)
But, I'm not skilled with pallies so I'm not the best player with that class.

See that little white button that says search? Click on it and type in your exact topic, I'm sure you'll find what your looking for. I don't like to discourage discussion, but this has been done way too many times before.

As Extremist said, there is no best class, if you're looking for a short answer. But definatley NOT the wizard slayer! :D

    [IMG] Hi,

Lighten up Lord Saverok. If I remember correctly you were posting new threads to this forum about one every five minutes a week or so ago. Even I, a very recent newcomer had seen some of those topics before. :)

    Cheers,

As Extremist sais there is no best class - though there are plenty of favourite and favourable classes ... anyway, I have played various thiefs, thief-mages, fighter-thiefs for ages so I'm rather good with them, just like with halfling cavaliers ;)

However, I think a well played kensai, monk or mage would still be a tough opponent - just as the'd find me to be one ...

it's completely up to you what's "best"

    [IMG] Ah,

Some discussion at last. Not wanting to repeat what others have said but since the precedent has been set, all classes are great in the hands of a good player.

However, three that really shine if played well are the sorceror, kensai and monk IMHO.

    Cheers,

    WittyNewt.

I like playing a F/M/T....but most people do not because they level up slowly. But, if you play with a smaller party, or solo, you level up nicely. I like being able to do just about anything with my main character. I'm thinking about trying a M/T next time I play.

I have honed my BG2 skills using mages (specialists; not sorcerers) and loony melee fighters (berserkers/barbarians) and as such know most of the tricks/techniques associated with those classes and the parties that result from their being the pc. I think Im going to have to try some of these thief characters that people seem so fond of, and perhaps a smaler party so I can get super powerful quicker and in more subtle ways than being a herculean nosher/thaumaturgist :D Smooth.

See, there really is no "best" class, so basicly I'm just going to state what I've had fun with, which I believe is what everyone else is doing. Ultimatly, that is what is most important, no?

*Fighter/Mage: Any type, dualed or multiclass is fun, especially if you've never played a mage before, so you can still use the fighter abilities you are familiar with.

*Fighter/Cleric or Fighter/Druid: Same basic idea as above, but with a priest. Note that you can wear any armor with these, the only restrictions being weapons.

Kensai: If you like swords, this is your man, nuff said.

Avenger: Fun Druid to play since you get some mage spells and extra shapeshifting abilites.

Paladin: All kits are good here, although I prefer the Inquistitor. Great class for all you do-gooders out there.

Assassin: More for roleplaying than anything else. I just love playing the evil assassin who can take anyone out with his poisoned blade.

Sorcerer: Great for people experienced with mages. It's nice being able to cast any spell you know.

Monk: A total killing machine at higher levels, I myself don't like this guy.

**Fighter/Mage/Thief: Think of him as an improved bard, this guy can do anything!

*Cleric/Mage: Your one stop spell shop.

*Note that I played most of these as multiclassed, but you can do them anyway you like.

**This guy can only be multiclassed.

    Hope these help.

The best class is the one you enjoy playing most. I usually play a ranger.
    This time, MC Halfling Fighter/Thief.
    Very fun.

As many of the people have said, there are no "best" class. But pre ToB there were some really lousy ones. Before ToB the wizard slayer sucked major d***. But with ToB he is awesome. I dont really like the bard class. Sure they are a jack-of-all trades but they are lousy fighters and even worse thiefs. If you can stand to have a low level mage as support and have a walking identify spell the may be nice but I think they are really bad.

[IMG] yah.... but in ToB... the bard's bard song gets really good... and it does not come with lots of limitations.... as for the mage, thief abilities.... i think it is only significant at lower lvls.... example in bg1.....

for myself i actually uses kensai dc thief...
coz the backstabbing function rules with high THAC0 and damage... but with ToB...i change to wizard slayer dc thief.... while dual wielding blackrazor(i am a NE char) and answerer.... and every round.. i have a chance of raising my strenght 3 pts, draining 4 lvls, healing 20 hp... -2 to AC, 15% magic resistance lowered and 10% magic casting failure......(hasting myself is useless as i got boots of speed...)..

    CoOlz....

Volkov, that class combination (especially a TOB Kensai\Thief), is so, so ... not right.

Maybe the fact he tries to point out is that the *lawfulness* of a kensai is in, relative contrast to the, ahem, freedom of interpretation of law (with an emphasis on property rights) a thief is used to do to earn his living.

However, there are thiefs and thiefs, I can imagine a professional adventurer, specialised in dungeon-delving who's not stealing at all. Basicaly this is a question of roleplaying.

[IMG] Kensai/thief in ToB is way overpowered, because of a specific special ability the thief gains.
