I've just had the second Bluetooth earbud for my phone crap out on me this year.
I'm working as a field service technician and often on the phone with a "bridge operator" who remotely configures equipment, so I use a single earbud in one ear so I can keep the other ear open to communicate with the local people.
This is important because the fans in server rooms can be loud and having earbuds in both ears can make me slightly hard of hearing, especially if there is chatter from other people on the bridge.
Granted the second one was a cheap one from a nearby Target because I needed a working one NOW and saw a Target down the street from the parking lot I was in (and on the clock with people waiting for me to do a job) and never got around to making this post to get a better replacement since it seemed to work well enough.

I seem to be picking the wrong stuff, can somebody suggest a mono earbud that won't die on me after less than six months, even if it gets caught on a wire, pulled out of my ear and dropped on the linoleum/concrete floor?
I don't really care as much about sound quality as durability without paying through the nose. It needs to be good enough (and loud enough, I took one back because it put a cap on the volume too low "for safety") that I can understand what the person on the bridge is saying while I have lots of server/router/switch/firewall fans blowing near me.
I'm not even sure how to research it, everything seems to be about sound quality and to a lessor extent battery life rather than durability. I do need enough battery life to last through being on the phone for a minimum of 6 hours (preferably 8), which would be pretty much the same as 6-8 hours of music.

So any suggestions? I live in the NW Suburbs of Chicago, so something for a store in say Australia wouldn't help, or something that I have to pay through the nose for international shipping and wait until after Christmas to receive wouldn't help, it needs to be something that can be delivered in a reasonable time frame with low costs including shipping costs.
