[IMG] What do you guys think of monks. They have no armor, are terrible with weapons, and are fragile in the beggining, but at higher levels they RULE!

Agreements, disagreements, biting saracasm, death-threats all are welcome

I had a monk my first time through and I don't think he was bad to begin with. Fragile nothing, he was great from the get go and just got better. Bad with weapons? He doesn't need weapons, his weapons are his fists, I ocassionally had him use a sling if the situation called for it. And pretty much the only time he used a sword was Daystar and that was to cast Sunray. I bought the Blade of Roses and let him carry it around but he never even had to use it. It was like, "see my pretty sword?" and then proceed in knocking enemies flat with his fists. His fists dealt the final blows to Firkraag and the Shadow Dragon, (but Aerie beat him to it with Irenicus' Dragon in Suldanesselar, you go girl)

Monks are great characters. What they lack in armor they make up for in speed. By level 10, which is really pretty early, they make decent tanks with their high hitpoints. By 12 they can be better than Minsc and after that, they're Holy Death....

They are indeed very powerfull and I really like to play them....

Haven't done that yet, should be very strong with Gauntlets of Crushing isn't it? And indeed, you can give him weapons with spell-cast-abilities etc...

[IMG] With all of this talkabout monks it makes me want to try one. So low maintenance-no juggling weapons and armor, just show up as you are and start swinging.

Mine just got to level 13 and he is now officially a stud. "Hello grouchy red dragon. Let me introduce you to my quivering WEDGIE OF DEATH!"

His stealth (with proper boots) is up pretty high now so he's not only a good tank, but also a good scout.

[IMG] Ye guys 're forgetting about the monk's biggest advantage. From level 14 (me thinks) they gain 3% magic resistance as they level.
    63% at 21-th level.
It's awesome and with their superior saving throws they're almost completely immune to magic, and from the 15-th. level they use their fists as +3 weapons, with a THACO of about 0, 3,5-4 attacks/round. They're fearsome, I'm tellin' ya!

[IMG] After leaving the Underdark with my monk at level 18 I deleted my saved game. At such a high level the game was too easy. Playing the monk is very simple, and TOO EASY even in insane mode because with the gauntlets of crushing and the girdle of hill giant strength my monk attacked 4 times per round with a THACO of -9 and delivered 48-132 damage per round. Nothing can beat that, no challenge at this high level!

Throw in a ring of protection +2, the ring of Gaxx, and that Amulet that adds to magic resistance. Monks are very powerful. Maybe over-powerful.

[IMG] I tend to agree with Tin_Man's statement. Monks have some unbalancing abilities. I especially dislike "insta-death" abilities like Quivering Palm.

There are other things in the game that are unbalancing - like Simulacrum.

Hmmmm, 'Monks are too powerful and they unbalance the game, they should have been left out". Aren't there a multitude of other classes you can play so as not to ruin your gaming experience? Monks rule - period ;)

I'm wondering, why aren't there any monks as enemies in the game? Or are there?
I know I encountered one Barbarian and he used rage, against my own barbarian with rage.
It's real cool, because then you know what your enemies are up against... ;)!

I think a whole Kara-Turan campaign brimming with Monks and Kensais going about on junks would be cool. Perhaps they'll do that if theres a BGIII, who knows?

I cant agree more than with Da punisher!!
As a "round the ordinary table" DM the most fun battles I have experienced with my players are when they are facing colourfull humanoid-enemies.

I kind of miss someone to fight against else than those encounters with powerfull mages -powerfull mages and powerfull mages.

The most fun battle I have had i Shadows of Amn was agaist drittz group. Its so intense that one can play it a few times in a row. What the heck we're here to have fun!! :)

A little hardcore partyencounter of munks-bards-barbarians etc once in a while. Could spice the game up a bit.

    Here is a dream:
Perhaps having several other computergroups running around the Country of Amn alongside with drittz and oneself. adding some dynamics to the game.... ahhhh We players always want more. Dont we :))))

There is a monk in the game though.(albeit a very weak one) When u go into Mae'vaers guild on the second floor with all the locked doors, that girl whats its face(anisha?) is a monk. I didnt notice this the first time cause i killed her too fast but im pretty sure she's a monk, she has the same avatar and deals lots of unarmed damage(i'll have to ctrl+q her sometime)
