Does anyone know of Ancient Weapons of our past? Probably just myth's but does anyone have any stories?

Also, do we have any Medieval Weapon collectors here?

I own a Polish Battle Axe, its pretty cool. It has a small head like the long Roman Battle Axes for more Armor penetration.

ancient weapons from earths history? hmm...hmmm.........hmmmmm....thinking............no. there isnt a single one that i know of. since there is no magic in our world, all that matters is the design and the metal used. that is easily attainable.thinking again...america?no...rome?no...egypt?no...greece?no...england?excalibur...not real...any and all other countries...no

Problem is the term 'ancient weapon' may not be really accurate. I mean, almost every weapon ever invented even long, long ago, and far, far away is still around and being used. Boomarang, blow gun, atlatl (that spear thrower thingy), chakra, pit full of stakes, etc. Maybe jousting lance or the big siege engines, catapults, batistae, etc.

I have a Scottish Claymore and a Bastard Sword...I'm trying to find a nice Viking sword though...

 

Last month I was at a medieval castle in Hungary that fell to the Turks in the 16th century. There were many weapons from the battle in the museum cases. The piece that had the most effect on me was a particularly brutal-looking morning star. I had never actually seen a real one before. It made me realize how generous the AD&D rules are to players. I think if I (let's say 12 Str.) hit Mike Tyson (...18/96?) over the head with that non-magical thing, he'd be down...for good.

 

Hey Kurgan, the only thing that I can think of "myth" related is the fact that the Vikings used to have words written on there swords beleiving that it enchanted them someway.

 

I'm not very up on my mythology anymore, but Odin (of Norse mythology) wielded a magical spear (Gugnir?), and of course Thor wielded a magical warhammer, after which the hammer of thunderbolts is patterned. I can't recall off of the top of my head what it was called, however.

Excalibur, Arthur's sword, would certainly fall into this category.

I may post more information when my mind is further from relational database management and nearer to my (pre)/classical civilisations studies.

Well i didn't really mean magical cause that does not exist in this world. I'm morely talking about Myth's of our World, weapons that claimed to have magical properties, or just great weapons that existed in time of some hero of war or some shit.

in the UK - try the 'Leeds armoury' its massive and full of spiky fun.
i have a couple of replica swords - a saxon and a 14c long sword.
has anyone heard of any referance to 'the seven swords of wayreth'? i know of two, but have spent about a decade trying to find the names of the other five!

I heard during the Crusades, a small army came across a Mans Castle and prepared to take it from him. They claim this Man wore black as midnight armor and no one knows how he made it that way. They believe he was a Spaniard and they call him the Black Knight. His castle still stands today in York i believe. He defended his castle with his small guard against the whole Army.

I beleive his Sword and Armor they say are enchanted with some immunity or some shit.

Its up in his castle if u go see it.

isnt that the guy whos castle is surounded by a swamp? he was mean to be able to disapear at will and his sword was meant to be 1000's of years old

 

The name of Thors hammer cannot be written in english because you do not have the appropriate letters. in Denmark we have those letters so we can write it. the name of the hammer is Mjølner The "ø" letter is a sound you do not have and i therefor cannot describe it. Thats it (BTW the name of Odins spear is Gungner)

 

Mjöllnir, Mjølner, Mjølne, etc. It's all correct depending on the language or time. It means 'Crusher' or something similar. (And for 'ø' you can type Alt + 0248 (on numpad).)

 

The crusaders once got out of a hopeless situation (their city was about to be taken by an arab army outpowering them by 4 to 1) when finding a Holy Spear (no not Odins), which was supposed to make the wearer invincible, got them the victory.
