    Hi there,

Ok, I am on the quest where Gaal is preaching about the "Cult of the Eyeless" and I have been hired by someone to go and destroy this cult.. Skipping all the crap I need to get to kill the big Beholder guy, I have found the 2 parts of the Rift Device and have wandered around the Beholder's lair for millenia looking for the guy... I fought him once, and I used the Rift Device on him, but, for some reason, my character died instantly and I had to reload. After reloading, the Beholder is nowhere to be found. WTF?! A little help?!

    Thanks in advance,

    FusionKnight

There are 3 parts to this rod. You need to get the last piece from the temple that is being guarded by those who do not care anymore.

    Syl...

I don't think that's the case, due to the following:

    1. I saw the "man" behind the Cult of the Eyeless once before, and he attacked me, and I died, etc.
    2. I already went to that temple and defeated the "Manifestation of Hate" or something, and got the piece of the rod that was there.
    3. I used the rod on Jaheira, just to see what it would do :)

Perhaps you're right, because when I did use the rod on her, it only did like 60 damage, and what with the big fuss about this, I thought it would do more.

    Thanks anywho tho.

The rod (and IIRC there were 2 pieces) doesn't kill the eyeless beholder, you still need to do a bit more damage to it after you use it.

I've heard of some people where, after they restored, the beholder didn't show up again. I can only suggest going to a save a little further back in time and try again...

There is only two pieces to the rod. When you get the last piece of the rod then the Beholder appears and you just use it on him. He dies right away. Maybe there's a bug or glitch in your game because it worked for me.

    *********** Spoiler ***********

as soon as you get the second piece of the rift device , the beholder appears in the corridor , he casts Power word kill , that may be why you char dies instantly , someone mentioned doing more damage after using the rift device , that was very much the case in my game. But the rift device did help.

[IMG] As was mentioned before, there are only two pieces of the rod. You get the first half from the Avatar and the second one in the beholder lair. As soon as you pick up the second part of the rod (at the beholder lair), the Unseeing Eye will appear behind you. Depends where you're standing, but it always appeared behind me when I played. Then just use the rod on it and hit it again. Fried brains coming up.

Ok, thanks for all the input guys, but I think I'll have to skip this quest or something, cuz the Beholder just doesn't want to appear for me, after the first time anywho.

    Thanks again,

Maybe you did a quck save just as you killed the beholder. before the power word kill hit you. So when you reload the beholder will be gone.

Try going back to the temple and see if you can give the rift device back. You should only be able to give it back if you have killed the Beholder

[IMG] Silroth: lol :) My charisma is like 10 or something.. Don't know for sure :)

Mage_0: That's possible, because I could return to the temple and give back the rift device. However, I don't remember seeing the "Saving Game" screen pop-up in the 2-3 seconds that I saw the guy :) Thanks anywho tho :)

    Thanks again guys :)

To back up what has been said, this happened to me too. I thought I would save right after getting the second half of the rift device so I wouldn't have to battle the beholder guarding it any more times than I had to. To no avail, the Unseeing Eye never showed up. Thankfully, I had an alternate save only a few hours back...

Thanks for all the replies guys. On a related topic, this very same thing happened to me after meeting with Firdraag, the red dragon. I go upstairs completely unprepared to fight a mage (since you can't rest in Firdraag's lair, for obvious reasons :)) and get wasted by some Insta-Death spell :( I load up the game in Firdraag's lair, go back up the stairs, and the mage is gone.

Now, it gets interesting: after hunting around for the mage for a while and finding the Heartseeker bow and killing that adamantite golem (4 lower resist then pelt him with magic :D) I go back to Firdraag's lair and the blackness is there (you know, when you first enter an area, the "shroud" is there so you can't see anything; removed by the Clairvoyance spell, etc.) and Firdraag acted as if he hadn't met me yet. Needless to say, I went back upstairs and obliterated the mage for causing me so much trouble :)

    Later,

I can't quite explain the problem after the reloading of your game...but you made a major error in your preparation before the conflict.

Maybe it's just me...but I'm pretty darn sure the outcast priest by the shade lich explicitly tells you to use the rod once, and only once...for its evil power is too great to control, or some such drama.

You used it on Jaheira? Now only should you be raked over the coals....but the quest is scratched, unless you can load a game before that incident.

Hehehe, yeah, I probably shouldn't have used it on Jaheira, but I am not quite as stupid as you make out. I *did* save it beforehand :)
