what is reincarnation? not sure what you're suggestion

 

i *think* he is trying to say that he would like the Reincarnation spell in the game of bg2...

isn't that the spell that you can bring a character back, in another randomly picked body?

so for instance... if Minsc dies, you can reincarnate him as an Elf... hehe *lol*

 

hmm reincarnating belmin gargas (correct ? the one who attacks viconia etc) as an elf sounds perfect

I think that reincarnation is a 2nd edition druid spell Extremist.

 

or 3e. Either way I never really understood the point of that spell. You can get reincarnated in the body of for example a hawk. Is that good?

 

The point is to survive. When raise dead is out of its limits.

Reincarnation

(Necromancy)

Range: Touch Components: V, S, M
Duration: Permanent Casting Time: 1 turn
Area of Effect: Person touched Saving Throw: None

With this spell, the wizard can bring back to life a person who died no more than one day per level of experience of the wizard before the casting of the spell. The essence of the dead person is transferred to another body, possibly one very different from his former body. Reincarnation does not require any saving throw, system shock, or resurrection survival roll. The corpse is touched, and a new incarnation of the person will appear in the area in 1d6 turns. The person reincarnated recalls the majority of his former life and form, but the character class, if any, of the new incarnation might be different indeed. The new incarnation is determined on the following table. If a player character race is indicated, the character must be created.

So theoretically, you could use this spell if somebody got chunked, instead of reloading, huh?

Or maybe we could use it on Khalid. A stuttering kobold, that'd be cool. And just imagine all the frenetic yipping coming from him and Jaheira's tent.

But seriously... what use would this be? Why would anyone ever want to use it? Who would would to permanently turn in a carefully developed NPC for a goblin or kobold? It's not like you can reincarnate people as dragons or anything cool, so why bother?

There is a 53% chance the slain individual will be reincarnated as something useful (gnome, human, elf, etc.). While they would surely have to re-learn all their skills, it could certainly prove interesting if somewhat time consuming. Imagine Minsc reincarnated as a halfling or better yet, a gnome for their high intelligence

 

There is much more info in the spell that I didn't write but makes it even worse. So as Tjekanefir mentioned, why use it when the raise dead is much safer?

Well the Raise dead has been heavily modified from the PnP version. first a survival check must be made. if you survive you LOOSE on con permanently. If body parts were lost in battle they WON'T be recovered making many bodies useless for raise dead. This wouldn't be cool in a CRPG would it? So Bioware changed it and skipped Reincarnation. and I fully understand keeping both spells as they are in PnP would take a lot of extra programming. So my conclusion. NO reincarnation!

so then there is no reincarnation spell in BG2? that sux!!!!

 

Facts:

1. The game crashes if you customize your hero in some of races not available thru character creation screen - because lack of proper animations (i.e. equipping hammers to goblins).

2. You can get such scroll - make it yourself by using Infinity Engine Editor Pro (at TeamBG site).

3. If you don't want to make that spell by yourself, then STOP SPAMMING ABOUT IT already!!!
