in firkraags dungeon you will eventually meet some vampires and other undead, if you go the way they came from, you will get to a little room with some shadow fiends(I think they're fiends). Here the key will be in some container

Mordenkainen's Sword dropping a Greenstone Amulet - or you being able to pick pocket it for one - is widely considered a bug. Check out Kevin Dorner's excellent page for more: http://members.home.net/mrkevvy/buglist.html

Exploiting bugs and design flaws is cheating. It's up to you how you play your game, this is just information to help you make a sound judgement. :)

    reply to frog:

The effective numbers for a instant kill with a swing of the Silver Sword is far from those 25% though. :)

I have done some calculations and for example, when fighting Firkraag about 1-in-20 of the swings will kill Firkraag even assuming that you hit every time!
    IMO that's still not bad.

The key you talk about is held by Tazok in Firkraag's Dungeon.
The entrance to the secret chamber is in the north/northeast part of the Temple district sewers. Remember it's a "secret" door!

Girdle of Frost Giant Strength is in the Demogorgon statue room which is in the Kuo-Toa lair in the Underdark.

Well Loken, the key is neaded to open the secret door in the sewers (part of the Unseeing Eye Quest in the Temple District Sewers), and is at the north part of the sewers. There are two secret doors there, one leading to where you find Hear'Dalis, the other locked entrance leads to a Mindflayer lair.

    SPOILER ABOUT MINDFLAYER LAIR

When you go in, you enter a wierd looking room with no enemies. The next room has people under control of the Mindflaers, then the third room has Umber Hulks (like the ones in Nalia's keep), then the final room has actual Mindflayers and the Hammer of Thunderbolts +3

Be well equiped to face the Mind Flayers though, as they can turn your men against you. they use something like psionics to charm your party members, so I don't think the shield of harmony will work against them.

I'm not sure about Firkraag's Lair, but I think the key is for opening the secret door in the Sewers in the Temple District.

hmm, I never realized that door was locked, you sure, has Markrath(the wiz guy) locked his door?

I think I got Haer'Dalis before I went to Firkraags lair in another game

    [IMG] Lokken, to clarify this:

    - There is one exit to Mekrath the mage - secret door in north/northwest sewers, no key needed.
    - There is one exit to the Unseeing Eye quest - stairs in the northwest end of the sewers.
    - There is one exit to the Mindflayer Lair - secret door, key from Tazok needed. North/northeast sewers.

Just wanted to reply to Earl Grey. (would have done it by e-mail if possible)

    SPOLIER mentioned

a.) Thanks for the link. It is very interesting

b.) My first time through with a bard, I pickpocketed everything from everybody/thing. In my many other games, I have talked to everyone, combined NPC's and tried an enormous variety of quest solutions and actions. This has lead to some interesting discoveries/story paths. In anticipation of Throne of Bhaal, I have recently started lurking on this board and seen mention of some (not all) of my discoveries and learned some things that I did not discover.

c.) I agree that the Greenstone amulet from the spell sword was probably an accident. However, I am not in full agreement that acquiring it is not a reward for clever, alert, experimental play that the game developers did not anticipate (particularly given the "monty haul" nature of the game). However, in the interest of balance, I will either stop using it or use it once only.

d.) Many of the listed bugs in the link cause crashes, break the plot, cause/are item malfunctions, exploit the limitations of the interface or break stated character rules. I have no quarrel with these. However, some of the "problems" listed seem to me to be an alternate way to role play or use your party in ways that the DM did not forsee. As an example, I do not agree that keeping Black Razor by pickpocketing the tear (and not changing alignment) is a bug or flaw. IMO, it is a thinking alternative to "give me the sword" or "kill me". The fun of any RPG is your ability to do things in different ways (not just running errands, choosing the obvious path and killing). I think this is generally a strength of the BG series. The very nature of these games is to set up a huge, complex world with a general storyline and allow you to move through it in a variety of ways. However, in some instances the developers try to hem you in to one or two solutions. If, by using the skills and abilities of your party along with some cleverness on your part, you can find a way that was not anticipated then I do not consider this a flaw or a bug or cheating. In fact, I consider efforts to fix or attach a stigma to some of these so-called faults to be misguided.

OK, I will get off of my soapbox now and back to work ;)

Shield of Harmony is part of the reward when you finish the Trademeet Genie quest.

Lokken, the key you are talking about that you get from wraith is completely useless. I believe it's called the chapel key and it was ment for a door that was accidentily made pickable. So just chuck it, its garbage.

Lokken, I haven't actually played Firkraag yet, as I'm doing the Unseeing Eye Quest in the Temple District, but when I get there I'll have to see what you mean,
