[IMG] I tried so hard to pickpocket that bastard and what I receive: some bolts and a crossbow. I heard thah he has some boots of speed, it's that correct?
Another matter is thieves abilities: the skills points are percent (e.g. 100 points = 100%)? For a succesfull pickpocket on Aran Linvail, Jan has about 150 points, on a lower value he discovered.

[IMG] The only NPC I've heard is specifically good to pick pocket is Ribald for his ring. Apart from that I've also heard that you can get scolls (even high levels) from pick pocketing peasants, nobles and soldiers.
I very rarely play a theif and never use pick pocket so unfortunately this is all I can help with.

[IMG] :D you tried to pickpocket Aran Linvail and you do still live ???? :D

However, though I never killed him myself he seems to wear an elven chain (+1 or +2 I think; just like Lord Skarmean Alibakar in trademeet). You can just szteal loose equipment like weapons, rings maybe but - admittedly - it is *very* difficult to steal ones jacket or his boots while he´s awake and just standing around ;)

The guy on the second floor has boots of speed. You can't pick-pocket him though... I mean his boots are on his feet. You shouldn't pick-pocket you should pick-feet or something :).

I know of two places where you can obtain the boots of speed... and its a "legal" way to obtain two pairs...

one is on one of the dwarves i think in the portal quest after you help Haer Delis, the other is in the maze in Spellhold.. collect the mithril tokens you see... then somewhere on the way.. you will find a "boot making machine" which requires mithril tokens.. you can make 3 kinds of boots... the cheapest is for 5 mithril tokens, the next is 10, and the most expensive is 15 IIRC, for 15 mithril tokens you can get a pair of Boots of Speed... i was only able to find 18 mithril tokens anyway...

    SPOILER:

Second NPC you should pickpocket is Tolgerias (Govt District).

Is tolgerias(?) in that locked estate? I couldn't seem to find a entrance to it! In front of the house it was something like "Go away!"

No, he is in the Council of Six (?) Building in the Goverment district. He gives you the planar sphere quest.

has anyone ever got the ferret familiar, and used them to pickpocket? i got one last night with my kensi/mage but havn't had a chance to use him. what does it mean when it says he has 75% pickpockets, does that mean as in 75 in pick pockets or something different?

[IMG] yeah, you're right, thats how pick pockets works. I find that if you have the cat familliar you can go anywhere and take anything, which is very cool. I made my PC a thief and gave him max on pickpockets, with that you can sell a valuable item and then just steal it back, cheap but a good way to get cash.

Thorr ---> Would you say that you wouldn't mention when someone tries to pickpocket your boots? ;)

No one pickpockets a shadowthief and live :)

BTW, know that pickpocketing good characters/heroes like Ribald is not a good deed, so when you're good aligment and you pickpocket Ribald you fall out ofg your roll, you play not your roll in the roll playing game what is like the name says about playing your roll.

In AD&D you woiuld even have a big chance that you will have your alignment changed in something that fits you better (in this case Chaotic Neutral I suppose) unless you got a tolerant DM

Marnix, I suggested pickpocketing on basis of my true neutral INTELLIGENT f/m/t hero.

I mean - if Ribald has all those fancy just to give out (sell), any intelligent person would come to think that he has better items to pickpocket on himself. Don't you agree?

True Neutral also fits well but Chaotic means you don't care abot laws and government but you only care for yourself, do thing that make you be better. But True Neutral is also good.
