[IMG] I am growing tired of the Super human Kensai mage and, in honor of Lord of the Rings, want to try my hand at a halfling character (I know, but there are no Hobbits in SoA).

Any advice on class(es)? I'm not looking necessarily for the most powerful, rather for the most interesting.

    bongo bongo!

Halfling berzerker with flail and HUGE shield and a somewhat to large helmet.
Running around in circles, shouting incoherently while spinning the flail of ages above his empty head.

you cant go wrong that way

Well your choices with halflings (according to the table I just looked at):
    Fighter
    Cleric
    Thief
    Fighter/Thief

In my mind, perhaps the most interesting possibility for a halfling then is the Swashbuckler thief kit. You get bonuses to hit, AC, and can put two points in a weapon. You lose the ability to backstab, but you can wind up with a pretty awesome AC, particularly if you give yourself single weapon style, and a 19 dex. You can stay back with a short bow, or move in with shortsword or dagger, darting in and out stabbing at your enemies and avoiding their blows. I don't know, but it seems more fun to me than just sneaking up, backstabbing and running.

Halflings have two major strengths: High dexterity and good saving throws. So they are excellent ranged weapons fighters, glorious thieves with good natural resistance (no to be confused with magic resistance) vs. accidental death and magic due to their saving throws.

I like halflings as mc fighter-thiefs - very survivable while beeing excellent allround thieves, very good with ranged weapons too. They are also great cavaliers :D and ranged weapons fighters - dear Mazzy is the best bowfightwer in whole BG-2 (though for some weird reason she didn't get the possible dex-19).

And if you fear that their str-17 is a weakness when fighting in melee - there are various strength girdles & gauntlets and some handy potions to compensate this.

From the natural halfling classes, it is better not to take pure calsses or kits, but go MC F/T. It is a universal character, capable of takind down a trap, enemy or item (from a storekeep's hoard)
I played a halfling diviner (gee, you say, diviner... HALFLING diviner :)) once, was funny enough, but no powergaming here, heh...

Halflings receive high bonuses at their thieving skills as well as to their saving throws, as Ragusa pointed it well above. But they also receive an AC bonus against giant sized creatures, such as ogres, golems and trolls. They make excellent fighters(hail Mazzy!). I recommend that you start a fighter/thief multi class character. with the final level of 13/15 he/she will be a very powerful killing machine.

:D "... The halfling cavalier dances around the feet of the dragon like a weasel, escaping it's fierce attacks, while searching for a weak spot to place his sword. His full sized company has been blown away by Thaxx'ssilyia and is unconscious at the moment so the burden of combat is on his, trusty Mazzy's and Boo's shoulders alone now ..." :D

[IMG] I think that you should play as a thief or a fighter/thief. Both of them would be fun.

The consensus looks like fighter/thief. Any H Clerics out there? Seems to me like I could short myself on strength and max out CON and WIS to have a relatively decent cleric, especially when I can afford the Girdle to max out strength. Until then, I can hang back and cast and sling. Although I guess te low str will make my slinging bad.

I think I'll roll both and see what I come up with. Maybe I'll play both in a MP game and pretend they are twins out to see the world, or something!

    Thanks for the advice, guys.

I've got to get my plug in for straight thief. They rule the realms. :)
