This is about the RPG value of the game.
I find it quite unreal that, once you have accepted a quest, you have no time limit to finish it. Point is, if you play one quest at a time you end up watching the loading screen a lot, as you have to move through areas. Of course it saves you a lot of time to access an area, talk with everyone, advance a couple of quests a little bit, then move to the next area, and so on. I also realise that the game somehow expects you to play this way, but I think it would add to the RP value to have quests that maybe only take place in one area (so you wouldn't have to aimlessy go somewhere just to get two dialog lines and a cup :D ), but with a time limit, so that you would have to concentrate on that particular quest. After all, should your good character really promise help to all those poor people, and then disappear for weeks ?
Just to hear if someone shares my feeling on this :hmm:

I personally like the flexibility that not having time limits allows. The quests that do have time limits always seem to pop up while your on your way to do another quest. I think I read somewhere that some of the Underdark Quests have very strict time limits, so enjoy the freedom while you have it. I do agree that tracking back and forth across the map for a couple of lines of dialog is time consuming and sometimes frustrating.

I agree; it is annoying, albeit somewhat more realistic, that you have to walk for minutes just to get to a place just to advance the quest a bit. Take the gong quest, for example. You have to travel all the way across Amn and back just to finish it, and it's just a minor side plot. Still, if you're impatient enough, you can always cheat to hop from one area to another. (Although on certain quests there are time limits, so I guess you could call it cheating.)

What is actually annoying is that you *have* to put some quests on hold since while you're travelling across the city trying to complete a quest, many new quests are piled upon you by people who force-talk to you.
So even when you have a good aligned party, you just have no choice but to tell some needy to wait while you're helping others.
A time limit wouldn't be such a bad idea, but providing you weren't forcetalked into ten quests at the same time.

Many of the quests in the Underdark do have very stringent time limits on them, which is quite different from the rest of the game.

But the way the game is setup it would be tough to have time limits on all/most quests since I think I got bombarded with at least 3 quests upon changing areas for one of the first times in Athkatla...

Hei, good to see so much feedback on this !
I am aware of the problem of people force-talking to you, and it is not about that that I complain: those are major quests, and I think the way they are implemented is the only one to make sure everybody finds them. Furthermore, since they were imposed on me, I don't feel that putting them on hold is wrong.
For what concerns the Underdark, IMHO it is the only linear chapter in the whole game, so it stands as an exception in this topic. And I did not find the time constraints so tight :)
C'Jakob: the gong quest could also be seen as an exception: after all, you asked for an adventure like none you had before :D
