I am at trademeet and stuck at the part where i have to find the shapeshifting flesh eater for the genies.....i don't wanna have to kill off the genie....

does anyone know how to find the baddie?

 

Go to the druid grove and find the cottage to the northeast.

 

Don't worry about that yet. Just agree to look into the matter and leave the genie be. Go with Cernd to the Druid grove. If you are thorough, you will come across this beast on the way. She's not difficult to take down if your group is experienced.

 

I completed trademeet as one of my first quests.
Why don't you kill the genie ?

I killed the monsters in the first cave then killed the genie and the killed the druid in the pit as it seemed the logical thing to do.
Have I missed something ?

I always just summon a fire elemental, haste, and beat the shit out of the genies. kill one and the other leaves.

 

I believe you get more XPs if you complete it as a quest, i.e. bring the head back and not kill the genies. I might consider killing them when I play an evil party next time. Do they drop nice items, perhaps?

 

I haven't tried killing the genies, but I read that one drops an efreeti bottle that summons an efreeti once a day. It sounds like a nice item.

 

Actually you get 10,000 XP and the +2 Rashod's Scimitar if you do the quest. If you SAY you're going to do the quest and go to the Druid Grove you get the XP for the Rakasha's plus thier magic items, 15,000XP for killing the 3 genies upon return plus thier magic items which are the +2 Scimitar and the summon Efreeti bottle.

I think it's worth it to 'clean up' all of them.

Myself, Assasin-w/ that +2 shortsword that lets you haste
Minsc-crossbow of speed+bolts of biting
Jaheira
Aerie
Cernd
Korgan-Azuredge

I had cernd, in shapeshifted form to werewolf outside next to the genie outside. I also had aerie and jaheira out there. Jaheira used lighting strike, and aerie used flame strike, both hitting at the same time as a backstab from my main character on the main genie. After the backstab, but before the genie registered the injury, i talked to him, finishing the quest and getting 15k exp. Then Korgan and Minsc's missile weapons hit, as well as cernyd attacking the genie outside. Following up with a magic missile from the second genie in the tent (dominated), and one from aerie to the genie outside the tent, i took out those two genies as well. Thereby getting another 10k exp, not to mention some fun setting this up.
