Never heard of anything like that before. Did you download and install the official patch?

Are you playing single or multi-player?

Did you save to any slots besides your quick save slot? If so, are they working?

[IMG] When you start the game, on the very first screen, there's a button I guess labelled 'Update'. Hit that and you'll automatically go to the "patch-site".

Otherwise, it should be somewhere at Interplay.

    try this stuff

Q: I am getting a runtime error or the game is just
crashing when loading a new area.

A: This will happen most often when the area
file has copied over incorrectly from the CD. You will
    want to do the following:
    Right click on "My Computer"
    Select "Properties"
    Click on the "Performance" tab
    Click on "File System"
    Clcik on the "CD-ROM" tab
    Under "Optimize access pattern for"
    select "No Read Ahead"
    Click on "OK"
    Click on "CLOSE"
The system will want to restart for
these changes to take effect. Click "YES" to restart.
Delete all area files contained within
    the C:bad:Program Files\BlackIsle\BaldursGate\CACHE\Data
    folder.
    Rerun the game

if that doesnt help do this

Delete the files in the CACHE\DATA folder. To do this, in the folder
    where
    you installed your game:

    *Double-click on the CACHE folder.
    *Double-click on the DATA folder.

Delete all of the files that you see in the DATA folder you have just
opened. Now try restarting Baldurs Gate again. Hopefully this will
    help
with the trouble you have been having.

If deleting the DATA folder doesn't help, you might also then try
    deleting
the files in the TEMP folder. The TEMP folder like the DATA folder is
located in the directory on your hard drive where you installed your
    Baldurs
Gate game. Don't delete the TEMP folder itself. Just the files that
    are in
    it.

One other thought I have is that another program running in the
    background
can cause troubles with your game. You will want to do the following:

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL. This will bring up a "Close Program" box. The only
items listed should be EXPLORER and SYSTRAY. Highlight any other item
listed and click on END TASK. Repeat this procedure until Explorer and
Systray are the only items listed.

i got this cuz i emailed the customer support site from bioware

i had the same problem it still happens like once in fifteen times i save or load but its much better

    hope it helps
