I had already completed the Sir Sarles quest, when I realized I should have given him the fake Illithium in order to save the real stuff for the Mace of Destruction.

Are there any other sources of Illithium, or am I out of luck?

Out of luck, unfortunately. Unless I'm wrong, you get one source in the game.

Is it worth doing it all over in order to get the Improved Mace of Disruption?

well it does give you another character with immunity to level drain, which is always helpful. I've heard that Anomen with that mace and a haste spell can take nearly the entire vampire layer on his own.

could always chesse it in if you don't want to reload.

How would I do that? I have come so far, and really don't want to backtrack that far.

[IMG] I did the same thing but was playing with an evil party. I just went back and killed Sir Sarles and relieved him of the 200 pounds of Illithium. On order to keep everyone else in the house liking me and to keep my current reputation, I cast stinking clouds on the areas away from Sir Sarles, put my party in the doorway that led to him and cast "protection from evil 10' radius on my party prior to gating in a demon right next to him. Viconia wields the mace when necessary.

It is, but not for the Illithium, you get some kinda gem instead. It makes sense, since the ore weighs 200 pounds :)

You could always add the ore to your inventory by using the CLUA console. The code for the illithium ore is misc5k.

The usefulness of this mace depends on your version of the game. In the original version, the amulet of power, which protects from level drain, can't be worn by rangers or paladins, but it can if you applied, for example, the Baldur Dash patch. Also, there is an axe that can kill undead in one blow juste like the mace, it won't work properly in the original version but well with the patched game.

I have found the Mace of Disruption to be of immesurable value in the vampire lair. Level drains can cause far too many problems to risk repeated occurences, so any protection is fabulous, especially when the protection also serves as a particularly effective means of destroying adversaries. It is definately worth backtracking or doing whatever necessary to acquire a Mace of Disruption.

You could install the Freedom's Reign mod, there is a +5 mace that instantly kills undead unless they make a save. It is really overpowered, IMO, though.

It can be used by a cleric or paladin, though it says usuable only by cleric in the description.

You'll find it during the Shade Lord quest.

Mace of Disruption destroys the undead even if not upgraded. Also, Azuredge is another such weapon. Makes two undead-destroying weapons together. How many levels are they going suck from you before they die? How many saves are they going to make? There's always the critical 1, no matter what.

I kept one character with the upgraded mace all the way to the end in a secondary slot. Every time we came across vamps, he'd switch weapons to it and wade into them, saving my party members from level drain. I think it's an invaluable weapon.

Unless you have a savegame before giving him the real stuff, you have blew it up. Unless you want to take the risk of an enormous loss of reputation and kill Sarles for the Ore. Sure the mace of disruption is kinda helpful, but no way paramount for killing vampires. the Daystar Sword and the Cleric Spell "sunfire" saves the day in the catacombs equally quickly.

if you have clerics you don't need the immunity from weapons and amulets, just have negative plain protection handy and cast it before you see vampires, it protects you from level drain, and using the original mace of disruption and the azureedge you'll kill 'em all and not lose a level!

Just head over to Jesteev's Estate gate a Demon in. No Rep loss and all the ore you want.

I dont give a damn about it destroying undead on a failed save. Let Minsc dual-weild a good Axe and the IMoD and he makes short work of all vampires alone.

    Definatly worth making.
