[IMG] Not sure if the Topic has already been discused, but how are you supposed to solo? Say, if I start as a Fighter/Thief, how do I get past the defences of wizards who cast protection from magical weapon etc. and I am just unable to touch them till I cast breach etc.
Fighter/Mage would be easier I guess, but still problem of traps will remain. Do I just walk over the traps and bear the damage?

Fighter/Thief is a good choice. IMO Fighter/Mage is a little better, but both are very good.

Only a few traps are lethal and you either have to know where they are and avoid them (easily done) and/or always take action to protect against them.
Protection primarily means using Spell Immunity, Spell Reflection, Spell Turning, Mirror Image etc.

Pf Magical Weapons: Use a non-magical weapon.
Mantle: Not much of a problem since there are plenty of +3 weapons which you can get quickly.
Improved Mantle: +4 weapons are a bit more scarce, but you can buy the Staff of Rynn +4 very early and staffs (in general) work for backstabbing so it's a pretty good idea to get this weapon anyway.
Absolute Immunity: You need a +5 weapon, but OTOH I don't know if anyone uses that spell.
Stoneskin: Hack away, get hasted if you can to do it faster. IIRC Stoneskin does not protect against elemental damage, so using a weapon like Flail of the Ages is good for attempting to interrupt spell casting while you are chipping away at the stonskins.

There are some exceptions, like (IIRC) liches are immune to normal weapons, so when they cast Pf Magical Weapons your best tactic is to wait for it to expire.

There are so many items which help you.
    - Summoning: Efreeti Bottle, Black Spider Figurine, Horn of Valhalla, Vhailor's Helm. If you are a Fig/Mag summoning is naturally much easier.
    - Immunity items: Amulet of Power, Shield of Harmony just two of my favourites.
    - Special abilities from items: Sunray from Daystar, Mirror Image from Ilbratha etc.

    Other:
Using Rod of Resurrection also works as the Heal spell. Scrolls of Restoration is also good.

Another useful trick when soloing is to cast draw upon holy might before you rest to regenerate a lot more hitpoints than usual.

F/M/T is by far the easiest class to solo IMO. However, there are plenty of threads about people soloing with almost every class. Two of the favorites are Sorcerer or Blade. F/M/C is also very useful, plus C/R is very powerful.

If you aren't a thief, you could summon creatures and send them through the traps. If this works? If you are a cleric you can use find-traps to locate the traps and then avoid them.

Try something different like a Cleric/Thief. You would have some excellent healing and buffing spells, some anti-mage skills and your thief skills to make certain portions easier.

There is actually a guide to playing solo on this website.

    Adding to Earl Grey's advice:
If you're a F/T and fighting a lich using Pf Magic Weapons, the Cloak of Non-Detection may help. Use a potion/ring to become invisible and the True Sight they inevitably use won't reveal you.

I think only Irenicus uses Absolute Immunity in SoA (and the same trick should work on him to avoid his magics and wait out his defences... I haven't tried it with a solo yet).

Sorry, my bad :( It was actually a BG1 solo guide. Sorry for that.

I have included the link as it still might be useful. http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG/BG1_solo_guide.zip
