This has happened to me many times. When I create a character I always set the difficulty on normal, so that I get max HP when starting. But this is too much. I usually play elves and when I get 101 starting HP somethings wrong. I have started other character with the same stats almost and they got the normal 91 starting HP. What seems to be the problem here.
It my seem like a small problem, but it makes the game unrealistic and boring.

i experienced that too. first saw it in a multiplayer party game where my wizardslayer (main char) had more hp than my kensai. looks like the main char gets 1 lvlup-like hitpoints more.

well treat it as another feature of your deity

Hmm, I sometimes create the game in normal as well (mainly if I’m not going with a full 6 person party), then switch over to core or higher (and for the same reason). Never noticed the extra HP’s, though (but it's not like I really checked); 91 HP’s should be what an elven warrior gets with 17 CON. I’ll have to check this out when I get home. I’m not sure from your post, but are the extra HP’s only on your protagonist as Bloodtitan has suggested, or is it on other characters as well? Also, have you noticed this with non-elves and/or non-warriors?
I don’t really get this comment. Are you saying that, with 101 starting HP’s, the game is boring, but with only 91 it all of a sudden becomes wildly exciting? Sure, it makes the game a bit more challenging, but a 10 HP difference is not really that big of a deal, especially if it's only on one character. Following your line of reasoning, maybe you should consider creating the game in core rules (or higher); this would give all your characters fewer HP’s and provide you with more of a challenge.

I always thought the extra health was part of being a child of bhaal. But I can't remember if your HP drops a bit after chapter 4 when spoilers happen. ;)

Another thing I don't understand is the "base HP" thing on Shadow Keeper. Where does that number come from? It does not match your in-game HP for some reason.

Aren't your base HP your total before any constitution bonuses are applied?

The base hp your hp without the bonus hp for high con. For example a L2 warior with 18 con and 28 hp
has 20 base hp and gets 8 hp beause of his con.

I agree with Splunge. If the game is so easy, why dont you just turn the difficulty up as high as it will go or something? The little extra hp you get wont mean anything when enemies are doing 100 dmg per hit. ;)

Well, it took me awhile, but I finally got arourd to testing this. I created 2 separate multi-player games, as follows (I have SoA, official patch and SP Fixpack installed, nothing else):

Game 1: 2 human plain fighters (protagonist and secondary), similar stats, 18 CON. Both had 98 HP's, as I would expect.

Game 1: 2 elven plain fighters (protagonist and secondary), similar stats, 17 CON. Both had 91 HP's, as I would expect.

So, I didn't get the mysterious extra HP's with the protagonist. Maybe the extra HP's have something to do with other stats (besides CON), Mods, ToB, or bugs fixed by the Fixpack?

i don't know about mods or if it is a bug but your portagonist usually gets 1 extrahitdice without CON bonus added as extralife. you know, d12 d10 d8 d6 or d4.
