    Minor spoilers.... and very long..

So recently I've been asking a lot of questions about Kangaxx. I tried to avoid some of the posts about him but kind of "accidentally" read them. So I knew about various ways of beating him, but wanted to do it MY way. So after two nights of frustration, I decided I needed some spell immunity scrolls. My two most powerful fighters (my druid and Anomen) are the only ones that could do any damage to the lich. So I went looking for spell immunity scrolls, found three, had to go all the way back to trademeet and the underdark just to buy three. Took me an hour and half to find them! so I come back, start preparing for the final battle. Then I realize that my druid and Anomen can't read the scrolls!! At this point I though it's over..there's no beating him. I don't want to spend another 4 hours throwing spells at him that don't work. Btw, lower resistance DOES NOT work on him. So the whole, lower resist, greater malison, breach combo means nothing. At this point I was so depressed, but my girlfriend said she had an idea. She used Aerie and Imoen and put them into spell immunity-abjuration. They stood there tossing spells back and forth wit the lich, no one party affecting the other. Not knowing what to do, I jokingly said "why don't we use the wand of wonder?" and she tried it. we put the cursor on him and out came a lighting bolt. Nothing. She tried it one more time and poof!! petrification. How he was petrified I'll never know...failed a saving throw? I don't know. Then our werewolf ran up there, slapped the petrified kangaxx and he exploded into pieces. I should back track and tell you that Anomen, in the heat of the battle was imprisoned. Usually when the enemy that has imprisoned a character dies, that character comes back automatically, but Anomen did not. What happened to him? we were wondering... I though that perhaps since Kangaxx is practically a god, there might be no coming back from his imprisonment..but just for the hell of it, we went back to the adventurer's mart, bought a freedom scroll and weren't even sure we could cast it as Imoen nor Aeire didn't even have level 7 spells. So we drank a potion of genius cast the spell and Poof! anomen was back. that is the end of this happy story...I thought it was pretty cool. It was an incredible battle and I was willing to lose Anomen because we finally beat kangax (even though anomen was such an tough fighter) but I'm glad we didn't give up. Anyway, it seemed like a sappy "everyone's happy hollywood ending" to some movie.

Petrification hmmm? I wonder if it just works with the wand. Did you get his ring for killing him or did you lose it?

well I don't see why it would work with just the wand, i mean the lighting bolt from the wand did nothing to him... and yes i got the ring!

Kangaax has so many immunities that I think the game designers never bothered to give him good saving throws: he tends to very easily fail these. I eventually found out he'll die from the Mace of Disruption +2 within the first two hits. Although beating him this way isn't very satisfying.

The Wand of Wonder petrification allows no Saving Throw, I think.

You're confusing the spell Maze with the spell Imprisonment. Maze is an 8th level spell that transports the character into (appropriately) a maze that the character has to find his way out of. The length of time the character is mazed is dependent upon his intelligence, so a mazed character like Imoen returns quickly, whereas a mazed character like Minsc is gone a good long time. Imprisonment on the other hand is permanent, and if imprisoned you can only get the character back by use of a Freedom spell.

More precisely: You need to cast the "Freedom" spell in the same area where character was imprisoned.
Althought that does read in the description of the spell, Just thought that i should point it out anyways :)

    Well well well.

Note to self. Don't waste my protection from magic scrolls. Send in a berserker and then petrify the schmuck.

I', sorry if I accidently spoiled you too much; that wasn't my intention. But good for you that you finally beat him, and even better that you did so in your own way :thumb: .

That's awesome. I tend to have beat him the long, hard way my first time. I had a berserker, went berserk, and club'd like there was no tomorrow, (mind you I found him way late in the game, and never knew how the heck I found all his body parts). My berserker was using the +4 shortsword, (luckily), and likewise luckily, my berserk didn't run out until a few moments after the demi-lich died. I had to retry once because my entire party except, 'Bert' were imprisoned *la la la*.

Nice story, uglijimus. I'll have to remember that, if I ever run into this mysterious Kangaxx fellow. Kangaxx is on my Sorcerer's Place t-shirt, but I am still yet to ever find him in the actual game.

It is the power of Wand of Wonders. When used on a creature, it can shoot lightning, cast stoneskin on the creature (very useful when used on your fighters), or petrify them without a save, or do many many different things. I experimented a little, it is either random or it follows a pattern. Worths trying if you like gambling. Never use on your PC though.

I had an odd Kangaax encounter my second time through. I set a few traps around the tomb with my F/T, and woke him up. He took a bit of damage, and I picked his pocket successfully. My entire party then did the bolt up to the top level when he turned hostile. He then took about 10 more hits (although I only set 4 traps) and when I returned, he died. No demi-lich, no XP and no dropped stash.
I had to reload and have another go at him.... 50K XP is 50K XP after all.

Where is the wand of Wonder again? I always sold it as fast as possible so I don't remember anymore.

The illithids in the sewers beneath the Temple District have it. The place you get the key for from Windspear Hills.

Has anyone else experienced what I just did in killing kangaxx, without too much difficulty actually, but getting no experience? Korgan landed the death blow, but got imprisoned moments after. Could this be contributing or am I just very unlucky?

A little from Column A, a little from Column B, and a little from Column C: Why wasn't he raging? Korgan's berserker rage makes him immune to Imprisonment, making him the perfect NPC to take down a demi-lich without a problem. I bet it was the Imprisonment (effectively taking Korgan out of the party just before the XP was awarded to him), but the timing must have been something special to snap him right between the killing blow and the XP award. *whistles*

Uh? Kangaxx's imprisonment can be dispelled via Freedom? Geez... And I spent hours hacking him with Korgan (flame tongue + enrage) & 2 mages with SI: Abjuration + melf's minute meteors (= 1-2 dmg per hit :D ) just because my other characters would get imprisoned.

I think it was a bug in an earlier version that made me used to this. Good to know, anyway.

By the way - if anyone's interested - the protagonist in Slayer form is also immune to imprisonment, while Minsc in berserk is not.
