[IMG] First time through SoA is behind me....Now I can graduate to that holiest of holies...

    "The Solo Game"

Someone, anyone, throw me a bone here....

I know this has been tossed around at least a few times on this board, but please fill me in once more...

I need an idea for a fun, useful soloist for my next go through. I made a 1/2 Orc Barbarian, but I'm getting tired of the "ME SMASH" crap!

    That sound challenging...

I could soup him up a bit....I was thinking a Monk as well...

Necromancer looks promising, then I would get to summon a familiar.

  4. Or try a divine spellcaster, such as a druid or a cleric. Come to think of it, soloing as a druid sounds pretty good, as they tend to be loners.

Try a Mage/Thief for soloing if you're sick of all of the plain fighting stuff. You have to use a lot of tactics as you're pretty horrible in melee. You could also do a f/m/t but it's not as hard.

Aha! I was waiting for Sarevok to chime in!

You seem to be the "Solo-Meister" around these parts!

Actually, I am in the process of creating a Monk.

I will call him: "Chiun The Unavoidable"

You avid fantasy readers will recognize the name. Now, to the hard part...finding a decent picture....

A bard is not three classes in a row.
Many in a minor way, but he is very usefull to lazy people like me for identifying items

I myself am partial to a Halfling Assassin if you're going to Solo. Get something like Firetooth, so you can pick enemies off one by one, it's fun.

I just soloed an Assassin/Mage dualed at level 13...although it was a very lonley experience. I pretty much just ran through the underdark once I picked up Firetooth. I didn't need the experience I was already level 13/24(ToB). But he is an awsome character with posion weapon 3 or 4 times per day(can't remember exactly), awsome magical skills, and a decent fighter. One of my favorite tactics with him is to cast time stop, then mislead, then backstab everyone! Fun fun fun :)! Problem is, it's too easy when you're such high level.

My favourite character is Artemis Entreri, so I have always used a dual-classed assasin/fighter (except in BG1).Never had much love for magic users, so I never once played with a mage (not BG1, or IWD or BG2).
I was wondering though, if you're soloing with, say a ranger/cleric, how do you open locks. Surely you can't force open all of them!

Haha, funny because you can't get that till near THE END OF THE GAME!

True, but you can always go back and run thru the entire game bashing all chests you missed. (If you don't have a life that is)

Monk can hammer their way through the game. At thier exp cap they will be unstoppable, and start gett'n good at lvl14 or so. With a few good ACitems and Magic resistance items, u can beat the entire game, including the 'Slayer Irenicus' by yourself! With items equiped the monk is even more powerfull. I have 113% magic resistance and -11AC buy my EXP CAP. Great huh

I have soloed the game with the following:

    Ranger/Cleric, F/M/T, Blade and Swashbuckler/Fighter.

My advice on soloing will be the following:
    1) if you are tired of just smashing things none of the fighter classes will do, because, duh, they just smash.
    2) Blade, Swashbuckler, Monk, Cleric, Shapeshifter - they all become quite good tanks in the long run, so that is not funny too.
    2) You are left with Asassin if you like to backstab people all the time (I don't), or you can take a Thief/Mage - he will be either a rather good spellcaster with enchanced weapon chice or he can be a well-hidden and protected backstabber too (aka Mislead)
    3) Sorceror and Druid will NEVER become good at melee, so they are a complete diff story.
    4) To be able to solo the game, you have to think over a few important encounters and think of a way to win them: Kangaxx, Twisted Rune, Adamantite Golems, Vampires, Greater Wolfweres, Dragons, Mind Flayers, and thier respective effects like stun hold charm lvl drain magic res etc. If your character cannot hanlde all of those he will have to skip a part of a game or he will just die.

    5) if you want my advice for a first solo, do the following: start a swashbuckler and bring it to level 10 (you can do it inside Irenicus dungeon) while putting proficiencies into Short Bow, Long Sword and Single Wepaon Style. Them dual him(her) to a mage. You will have a few scrolls to memorize to help you in the transition period, then there is some free exp for the taking in the beginning of chapter 2, so you will become a rather good mage and eventually regain your thief skills pretty fast.

[IMG] I had a Blade which I stopped playing because it was too easy to be much fun.

Played a Monk without using any magic items/potions/spells all the way through.

Posted the rest of my solo characters here: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/004760.html

    @Lord Sarevok
You're letting your solo character advance beyond the SoA cap!? I'm shocked!:nono:
You do know you can just stop levelling up after reaching 2,950,000xp and do all the levelling up once you get to ToB, don't you?
