I feel so late to the party, but I just started playing BG2 for the first time last week! I am playing as an Archer with a good-aligned party.

    Couple things I've run into...

Ranger Stronghold: I finished it, but is there anything else that will happen with it? The cabin is so far out of the way I am not sure I will ever use it.

Also, lately Jaheira and Yoshi have been sporadically saying things like "I am sure this setback is only temporary" or "We must maintain balance!". They say this at odd times, such as when I am just walking around. I think I did something to upset them, but I can't think of anything.

Other than that I am loving this game!

Jaheira and Yoshimo are neutral characters therefore when your rep gets high they start complaining. They won't leave you but it can be very annoying! ;)

Stronghold: It is a little bit out of the way, but you can still store stuff in it. You'll be called back to town by Minister Lloyd a couple of times to help (after all you are the protector), just go back quickly and take care of the problem. Don't stick around the Umar Hills, the Minister will send a messenger to you.

I hope you didn't give the kids weapons or alcohol (or both).

Your reputation determines some of the comments the NPC's make. High reputation is good for good pc's , bad for evil pc's (they think you're a wimp). Low reputation is liked by evil pc's, but the good pc's will start to hate you. Neutral pc's like balance -- mid-range keeps them happy. I prefer to get the discount at the stores for high reputation and ignore the complaints.

OH! Well, that's sort of good news then. I thought I ticked them off. It sure does get annoying. They complain a LOT.

Thanks for the info. Big relief!

    EDIT:

As for giving the kids alcohol/swords...

I did it. I didn't know it was a problem at the time. I was still able to finish the stronghold, but are they going to take it away some time?

No biggie if so. It is nice for storage, but so far out of the way. The game needs a bank. :)

It doesn't cause any real problems if you give the kids ale and weapons. :)

^OH NO! I gave them the ale but NOT swords... Will I lose the stronghold? WHEN? What could possibly happen to those little boys?

There must be more to gettng the cabin taken from you. I have my doubts about the couple of walkthroughs that mention this because i have yet to see a screenshot or anything that proves it is giving the ale/swords to the kids that causes the cabin to be taken away. I am starting to think the cabin gets taken away if you are late for one of the tasks they give you. I would like to see a screenie that shows the mayor saying it was the ale and swords.

As it stands, I gave the kids both ale and swords, and I was able to finish the stronghold. Every time I return to the town, people are loving me.

Besides you can rectify the problem with the kids quite easily...

    SPOILER ALERT

The kids go off to the cave in the northern part of the screen where the mimic was originally located. They are being attacked by a gibberling, but in their drunken stupor they think it's a dragon. Kill off the gibberling, save the kiddies and everyone lives happily ever after.

Oh, I see. Ok, well that's what I did. So, maybe if you don't do that before completing the stronghold quest they will not give you the cabin.
