One of the Unofficial Patches for The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind

    About this mod

You haven't downloaded this mod yet Patch for Purists is an unofficial patch for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind Game of the Year Edition which attempts to continue where the latest official version of the game left off. Over 9000+ bugs still present in the game have been fixed.

Morrowind, like most Bethesda games, is infamous for being buggy. Although some fix packs were scattered around the internet, most were poorly done and incompatible. A complete and tested community patch was needed. A pure patch that polishes this diamond of a game without adding any questionable content or changing the gameplay in any significant way (hence the “purist” moniker).

I decided to make such a project a reality a few years ago. I researched the game, its internal workings, and how to work with the Construction Set. It's been a long way, but with the great help of so many fans from all across the globe, this patch was made a reality.

    Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon.

First, you must update to the latest official patch (v1.6.1820). Steam and GOG versions of the game are up to date. If you are running the CD version of the game, the correct installation order is: Morrowind / Tribunal / Bloodmoon / Bloodmoon Patch v1.6.1820.

Next, unpack the files in this download into your Morrowind\Data Files folder and overwrite the files. The default location is C:bad:Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Data Files. For Steam users, it is: C:bad:Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Morrowind\Data Files.

For some fixes to work, you must check two specific options in the Morrowind Code Patch (MCP). Under the "Mod specific" tab, select the following:

    Separate axe inventory sounds

    Creature voiceover enable

Apply the chosen patches in MCP (You can do this at any time; it doesn't matter if you patched your Morrowind.exe before).

Activate "Patch for Purists.esm" under "Data Files" in your Morrowind launcher, and you're good to go.

Note: I strongly advise against updating (or switching) patches halfway through. Patches touch too many things, and changing them leads to weird problems. My advice is to continue playing your save on the older patch and update the moment you start a new playthrough. However, this does not apply to the small "hotfixes" updates (fixes in the patch itself). These updates can be recognized by a change in the third digit (e.g. updating from v3.1.0 to v3.1.2). Hotfixes shouldn't cause any harm to your save.

Highly recommended to use alongside Patch for Purists:

Patch for Purists is compatible with the OpenMW engine but will conflict with other fan patches, namely:
    • Unofficial Morrowind Patch (UMP)
    • Morrowind Patch Project (MPP)
    • Morrowind Rebirth (comes with its own fixes)
    • Script Improvements
    • GOTY Script Tidy
