Have you read this article yet? It's a total joke...

The mail headline of the the article is:
Read the full article at: msnbc

Ummm...last time I checked most gammers were horny teenagers or evern hornier adults...if anything, the ESA should promote the 'scantily-clad' women, if only for the fact that sex sells. You put a few half naked women next to a NWN banner, and every straight male is going to want it. :p

In my opinion, this is a result of what heppens when a parent comes to the expo. :nono:

What would Lara Croft or Leisure Suite Larry say about this?

And another thing. Is it jut me, or does the article's headline suggest that all gammers are nerds that don't like sex? :skeptic: :nono:

    Just a thought. :rolling:

Why does this somehow seem like asking women to cover up at a porn convention? Comeon, many of the games on the market are pushing towards softcore, it's stupid that they can't advertize what they sell.

People need to be a little less prude every one and a while. It's a convention for Christsake, you don't have to bring your kids with.

Agree with you 100%, but the same goes for bringing your parents if you're a 12 year old brat. It's usually the prude mothers of a little 12 year old that cause a scene because they don't want their child to see that "filth". If you don't want them to see it, don't take them...don't ruin the fun for the rest of us! :flaming: :rolling:

No actually I've heard of these actions at the E3 last year, they're just straight nerds(not parents) who want to play a frikkin game, like me, without being constantly bashed with braindead bimbos.

Last time I checked, you needed to be 18 to enter.

And that is what? Away from content? Now there is a welcome change... not.
It's very simple actually, many games are now sold by using sex, if you ban sex, they'll need to come up with something else, like, oh I don't know, improving the quality of their games?

It should be common knowledge by now that skin and boobs are taboo in US. Funnily enough, if the show was about blowing someone's head off, no one would pay any attention. :shake:

So hope E3 will relocate to EU and show us some naked Tomb Raider bust. :yum:

I think a certain Mr Chevalier would disagree with you entirely there. He clearly has not noticed this thread yet......

In that case the amount of flesh shown should be a non-factor. You have to 18 to enter strip clubs and sex shops for a reason as well. If you're targeting an adult crowd sexuality shouldn't be an issue.

Looks, like this thread is bound for the AoDA...especially if Chev sees it anytime soon. :(

Exactly! :thumb: Wow...I've never agreed with someone so fully before! ;) :rolling:

If it is an all ages thing, then no nudity (legal reasons... you can't view porn legally until you are 18). If it is 18 and over, who gives a crap?

    Or the News Forum...

Much ado about nothing, really. I would hope there isn't much actual nudity, but otherwise what are they compaining about?

Chevalier does, because some people don't like the idea of women using their bodies to make men think about sex, because that should be reserved for marriage (man - I've read too many of Chevalier's posts....)

E3 is a fair for the press (at least in theory) and game developers and their support staff. If you are neither of the latter you need to register and present proof of being a member of the press to be able to attend, so it's not something anyone can walk in for. In theory, of course. Every year there are plenty of people who cheat, lie, steal (I wouldn't go as far as to say murder) to gain admittance despite not being qualified for it, but technically, it's an event only for the professional public closely connected with (or part of) the gaming industry.

I'm not a fan of blantant sexuality and the feminist in me (yes, guys can be feminists) says that stuff's exploitive, but I'd much rather have tacky sexuality that leads to base levels of thinking then take the route that is currently taken in the U.S. and that would be that there is something inherently "wrong" or sinful about the human body (particularly the female body).

If you argued that the marketing of sexuality was exploitative and effects the image of all women, not just the women working at E3 (whose actions one could make a case for being the byproduct of societal beliefs about what the value of a woman is), I think I'd have to agree, but I can't agree with the idea that women need to cover up because their bodies are "unwholesome" or "unnatural". Sexuality is only an issue when it becomes exploitative or demeaning. Why is there anything wrong with the way a man or woman naturally looks? It's others who instill sexuality into the naked body, the so called sin lies within the viewer, not the flesh of the viewed.

Here's a question, I've seen it hinted at, but not really answered:

At what point do the "booth babes" distract from the product?

I remember when I went to Gencon seeing a booth babe. I remember her in her Chain mail bikini, but I don't remember what product she was trying to get attention for...

That's right. Who needs sex to go with all that violence, blood and gore in our games? As gamers, let's not think about the human body in any terms that are a part from killing it, hacking it, slashing it, finding new and inventive ways of blowing it up, dismembering it, running it over, or smashing it into bloody pieces. Sex? That would be just downright immoral.

    From the article:
Sorry guys, I think a line has to be drawn somewhere. How much skin do you need to see. If it was glorification of the human body then I would support everyone (male & female) going nude but it isn't.

It is pandering to the male libido.

However since I will not being going to one of these expositions I only care because I do not like seeing or hearing that women are primarily sex-objects.

Haha, good point, but the problem is that sex is used to sell the product not to enhance it (in any positive way).

I think a gaming convention should be about gaming - if you want nudity, go to a strip club.

Were I to go to any event like that, I'd want it to be highly focused. Half-naked people don't come into that...

I'm with Aikanaro here, intelligent games and naked females are quite a different league imho, and I´d go to a gaming convention to learn about new games.

Go them. Women are NOT objects for those "horny geeks" to drool over.
