[IMG] As many know I recently purchased a new PC, a DELL. Now, I got it with a decent vid-card, I think, an ATI Rage 32 MB. Where does 3-D acceleration come in? Is that what I always hear about, like the "Voo-doo" and so on? Do I buy it seperately, and if so, is it "plug and play"?

    Educate me, please...

ATI-Rage 32 mb is a videocard with 3d-support so you don't need to buy a VooDoo or G-Force.

Forget all that is Voodoo. nVidia bought 3dfx a long time ago. Only GeForce and Ati counts now (though I prefer GeForce).

ANyway, you don't need to buy one for you already have 3d acceleration, Ati Rage is a 3d card.

Mollusken, I prefer the ATI Radeon 64 mb for it is cheaper, and still at least the same quality as a Ge-Force 2.

As if ATI can show up with the same quality of drivers as nVidia. Anyway, nVidia has stopped producing GeForce 3 GPUs now. The AGP 8x GeForce 4 with 128 mb DDR RAM will beat ATI so hard :). The ATI GPU for gamecube is very good though.

Mollusken, in performance Nvidia would beat ATI indeed.... the problem is the price. NVidia's prices are so high that many will not be able to buy a GeForce 4.... when you look at price/quality comparision, ATI is still better then Nvidia

[IMG] I have an ATI Rage n the PC I have now, and it isn't compatible with games that require 3D acceleration, like I can't play DEUS EX. I think the card I have is a 16 MB card. Bottom line is I just want to be able to play just about any game. I hope it all works out!

Impossible! You have a 16mb card and you can't play 3d games? Are you sure you have the right drivers? What does the computer say when you try to play a 3d game?

The Rage cards are crap. Throw it out and buy a GeForce 2 MX. Very cheap, and capable of running anything in 3D without any problems.

Hmm.. I can't image a 32 mb card without 3d support... Bye an MX, Geforce 2 or a Ati Radion... (a GOOD ati-card)

You didn't have any 3D acceleration until now? Man, you are missing out big time.

Forget about GF2 MX. It's old news. Too obsolete. GF2 Ti is as low as you should go right now... since GF4 is coming soon.

[IMG] I suppose it has 3D support, but games like Deus Ex really pushed it too far. When I've tried to play it, it messes up my computer totally. I recently bought "Anteus Rising" for like 5 bucks, and the graphics for that on my PC look real antiquated. Maybe it is the "drivers". I'll have to look into all this I suppose.

Don't forget about upgrading Directx too. Rage cards aren't crap. Atleast not my All-In -Wonder. The TV tuner doesn't work, sadly. Maybe I can solder in a replacement.
