    I abandoned a pretty successful game of IWD a long time ago, but now that I've recently discovered that it runs well in WINE, I'm thinking about giving it another go.

    I prefer a 4-person party. Would I be missing out on anything by making a party like this?
    - Half-Elf Bard
    - Human Fighter -> Druid
    - Dwarf Fighter / Thief
    - Gnome Cleric / Illusionist

    What alignment would be best for each character? What's the best level for the Ftr/Druid to switch classes? Would it be better to go Thief / Illusionist and full-class Cleric or maybe Human Fighter -> Cleric?

    Thanks!

    Bard is fine.

    I always preferred the mulit F/D as compared to the Dualled. But both are good tanks.

    I would go Gnome Fig/Thf so you can use the "Helmet" ;).

    Last but not least, Half-Elf Ranger/Cleric.

    I too think that a multiclassed fighter/druid is more fun and usually better in the long run than dual in the game.

    Gnome is probably the better choice than dwarf honestly though getting a fighter/mage/thief might be an even better idea (you are relatively low on magery but you may a thief).

    Personally from my experience multi is better than dual class at most times in this game especially if you want to challenge HoF mode. My party would be...

    Bard
    FMT
    Ranger/Cleric
    fighter/druid

    I think that covers all the bases and will be hearty and warrior enough to not need to rest all the time. I find warriors to be very useful in the long dungeons in this game.
