    Hey, I tried out Unfinished Business and completed the quest of returning the (now broken) Spider's Bane to the druid in the catacombs. The reward was a wand called a Web Sack, that was valued at 45000 gp, which seems ridiculously high. Yes, it's a good entanglement weapon (-5 to save vs. spells or be entangled), but I also use the Item Upgrade Mod, and the 45000 gp can usually be put to much better use. Any idea why the value of the wand seems so over-inflated?

    Not only is it over-inflated, but it seems you can buy it back for a meager fraction of its real price(something along the lines of 5,000 gold, although I don't have the actual numbers on hand) and therefore abuse it much like the gem bug in the City-of-Caverns.

    I don't believe it's due to the Item Upgrade mod, as this happened with my last game and I only had Ease of Use, Improved Illyich and Unfinished Business installed.

    I agree that it's not due to the Item Upgrade Mod - I'm just saying that since I use the Item Upgrade Mod, I usually have more use for 45000 gp than I do for the wand.

    Boy that sounds like something the Unfinished Business guys should really address. Like cutting a 0 or two off the value of that wand. Entanglement become rather useless except on your own party after a point anyway in the game. The small enemies either stand still in the first place or are easy to kill and the big ones are too big and move around even entangled or are immune to such tricks more often than not.

    Ok, I know thios is totally off topic, but what is this "gem bug" you speak of? It sounds...interesting. :money:

    Getting back on topic, if you think that 45000 gp is too much, you could always donate 40,000 gp to a local church and get your rep a tad higher, while saving the more reasonable 5000 gp for yourself. :rolling:

    @ Kitrax -

    The "gem bug" is actually an overlook of the game while in the City-of-Caverns (also known as the Sahuagin City): gems and other valuables have their buying price set to 3/2 of normal, but not their selling price. Therefore, you can sell a Rogue Stone for 4,500 gold and buy it back for 3,000, which results in a neverending amount of income.

    Of course, if you *really* want to be downright cheesy for gold, there's the pickpocket/Fence trick.

    @Ziggy,

    If what you say is true, then the wand is far, far, worse then the gem bug in the City of Caverns. (Actually, it's not just gems - pretty much any magical item you sell in the City of Caverns can be bought back for less than you sell it. The reason why the rougue stone is usually the example given is that because it is one of the most expensive items, it gives you the best differential between what price it was sold for, and what price it can be bought back.)

    Anyway, the reason why the Web Sack is chessier is because it can be acquired virtually immediately upon leaving Irenicus' Dungeon. To get to that area of the catacombs, the only thing you have to kill is a few spiders. If you can buy it back for a fraction of what you sold it, it gives you an unlimited supply of gold during the very point of the game where gold is an issue - the beginning. In contrast, by the time you hit the City of Caverns, gold isn't much of a problem. You've already bought most of what you were going to buy, with the exception of maybe an item or two off Ribald or Cromwell once you get back to Athkatla.

    Another very obvious abuse of this is to get the wand, and do the sell/buy technique to immediately get enough money to pay off either Bodhi or the Shadow Thieves. Completing the chapter quest gives each character a free 50,000 XP, another thing that's very useful early on in the game.

    The abuse is limitless in terms of items. For example, no one ever buys the Staff of Rynn, because by the time you can afford it, you usually have a weapon that has some abilities beyond just being a +4 staff. But straight out of Irenicus' Dungeon, the Staff is a monster weapon. Full plate mail for anyone who can wear it, and unlimited spell buying.

    You can buy the wand back for 5k but it only has one charge when you do.

    But can you then re-sell it 45000?

    You shouldn't be able to if it only has one charge. By my recollection you can't, either.
