    Hi all,

I am a returnee to the board (and the game)after an absence of around 5 (or so) years - having turned back to BG due to not being excited by any current games and a period of illness which meant I was bored a lot (daytime TV really sucks!!!)

So I am ploughing through SoA at the moment, about to finish and move onto to ToB, but even after so long away some of it does sometimes seem to be "retracing footsteps in the sand" for me - if you see what I mean.

So I have been looking at Mods. Damned confusing if like me you have no brain...but still!

So to 'cut to the chase', I am looking for advance from y'all. Advice that I think will actually be quite useful to others as well.

I am looking for 5 Mods to add to my game. I see many using 20+ but I want to keep it pretty simple, at least for now. I do NOT want anything that RADICALLY changes the game to something else, or that has a reputation for messing stuff up.

Just something to alter the experience, and I have defined it thus.

    1. I would like an overall game Mod that gives me extra areas to explore (is that possible?) a few new quests maybe, whatever... Just something to enhance the actual setting and experience.

    2. I would like an added NPC for early in the game. I am somewhat jadded on the NPC's in the game have played through the damned thing 20+ times with all manner of combinations (done it solo a few times too). So someone useful from early on that I can take through the game.

    3. An NPC that I can pick up a little later on - same reasons as the previous...

    4. Any mod that brings new items. I already have the two bonus CD merchants in the game, and fine chaps they are too. Obviously nothing 'silly' or whatever but if there is another merchant out there that would be great! ;)

    5. Any other Mod that people think of as 'highly recommended'. Your choice - make your pitch for it.

    Many Thanks - in advance.

    James

Try here, link 6 for NPC mods. Saerelith and Fade both add new areas to the game. Solaufein can be picked up after your are in Ust Natha (Chapter 5) and his mod will significantly alter some of the fights in the game!

Here is a big listing of mods that put new stuff (item, quests, areas, etc.) into the game. For very difficult battles, try Tactics, Ascension and/or Oversight mods.

    Welcome back Chelsea.

    1. Unfinished Business (UB) -> Here

Basicly adds more quest, and ties things together left from the game's final release.

    2. Either Kelsey Male/Sorcerer -> Here

I have heard great things about this NPC, real good made mod, but I myself have not tried it.

Or Saerileth Female/paladin of Tyr -> Here

The link will bring you to a review done right here on BoM by SuperNovice, I like this one a lot!

    3. :o I don't know of an NPC that is intruduce late in the game

    4. Boards O' Magick Item Pack by Olimikrig -> Here

This one is an excellent mod that brings one new items, most of the items are inspired by SP community.

    5. Ease-of-Use Mod (EoU) -> Here

Other than that, listen to Silverstar he is the king of mods.

    Good luck.

Sola Mod is what he is looking for than, you can take Sola as a NPC when you are leaving underdark, pretty late I guess. It is a very fine made mod. Sola is biseksual and will romance both male and female PCs. But his romance is so deep and mostly consists of deep banters about philsophy. It is very well written though. And the mod has few very exciting and challenging encounters too! :thumb: My personal score: 7 out of 10, as I met a very nasty bug with Sola romance which prevented me resting while Sola was alive in my party. (apparently he was supposed to initiate a love talk when we rested, but the file was corrupted so the game used to lock up when I tried resting.) Kind Olimkrig made a 'rest potion' mod for my use, and thus I did not have to CTRL+Y Sola each time I rested. If not this bug, I would gladly give a 9 out of 10. It is that good!

Note that this was an extreme bug, and maybe was due to my many mods, I do not think you will have it if you choose Sola.

I am now playing with Keto NPC mod. This is brilliant. Simply, amazing mod. The voicing is excellent quality, and Keto's banters are very rich. AND her scripted quest is amazing, I actually listened to singing bards, who sang masterfully in a competition, it was a real joy. I highly reccomend it. Her mystery about her past, and triggering events, etc. are so cool and almost film-like! So far, 9 out of 10, too bad it lacks a romance, then it would be PERFECT!

Hmmm, a lot to think about there.

But I am of course interested in hearing everyone's opinions on this.

Certainly Solufein (sp) always SEEMED as thoughh he would become an NPC in the game, so glad he can be. Underdark is quite late too.

Thanks for you opinions keep it coming. I am now off to check out those links kindly provided by Maurolava

I strongly recommend that you delight in the cheese that is the Improved Irenicus battle, courtesy of the Tactics mod! :D

I dunno if someone else already mentioned that yet...I haven't read through the whole thread.

Oh and make sure you get the Ease of Use mod. Makes life a LOT easier.

Then stay away from Tactics, Imp. Battles, Ascension, Oversight's Sendai part, cos these really make your game hard (and cool) (and fun) :p

DungeonBeGone - Very cool, and useful too!

Unfinished Business - Looks VERY interesting.

and...Boards O' Magick Item Pack by Olimikrig - Look forward to checking this out, but do not know where the new merchant is... :(

Thanks all for your help and keep the suggestions coming.

The new merchant is an imp called Bion to the southeast of the tent.

I suggest Kelsey for an NPC. He has tons of banter, and if you romance him, there is plenty more. He is also an exceptional sorcerer.

Do not use Solafein, he is overpowered and boring to listen to.

Okay have tried a few. Good so far.

I was wondering though, these new NPC's I have added seem fine (like Yasraena especially) but do i get to 'call' them when i get to my pocket plane in TOB?

Also kelsey, great character but he sure does get annoying doesn't he! ;)

Depends on the mod. Usually they will tell you if they have ToB content, and if they do I'll bet you the first thing they did was to make them summonable by the Fate Spirit.

Are there any MODS that allow you to pick new/other races?

I would like the option to be a Tiefling or Drow..etc.

The thing is - I have tried to take a Drow character before, used the Drow portrait, Drow 'colouring' and even used SK to give a Drow doll. But no-one considers me to be a Drow, even the Elves after the Under-dark.

It is like I am glu-ing wool to a pig, I am calling it a lamb, it moves like a lamb and everything else. But to everyone else it is just a pig!

    ;)

As for mods, there is a Subrace mod out there that would allow you to be drow (or whatever) without all that tinkering. I don't think it'll do anything RP-wise though. You're just going to have to make it up yourself. I've got a drow assassin going right now in Tutu that I'm doing that for; some randomly placed insults when it wouldn't really be in your favor, attacking every other surface elf, etc.

(thought I would add to this thread rather than start another) :)

Is there a simple item creation mod available?
I have seen big editors that allow you to do alsorts with the game, but all I want is to create an item or 3.

Well, there's Cromwell's Smithy, a program hosted by SP, as well as other things like an item editor over at ClanDLAN.

Cromwell's Smithy is actually hosted at BlackWyrm, so that's where you'll likely find it supported. SP mirrors it.

Nay Bion ain't the merchant, he just takes you to Taluntain (who is the merchant).. My advice is that you don't piss off Tal if you don't want any hard battles ;) .

There's still a couple of bugs with some of the items, which Mag's and I haven't had the time to correct yet (I'm working on it whenever I can). Nothing that screws up anything, mind you. Just an item or two which doesn't behave quite like it should (Icicles doesn't freeze opponents at a 5% chance, for one), and a couple of items which has way too low prices (*cough* Arabwel's cut-throat *cough*).

Have you turned to the dark side, Fel  ?
