So what the heck is it with celebrities and "celebrities" and giving impossible names to their children? Some weird cosmic revenge on the universe or are these people simply so out of touch with the real world that they think that naming their son Cola Can or something similarly retarded is somehow "special"?

Fifi Trixibell is something I'd expect a poodle to be named.

Ocean isn't too surprising for a father named Forest.

Jermajesty is the best one on there though

I don't know how special these names are; they just reflect a deeper understanding of the world that regular people don't possess.

The dog, luggage, and scientific instrument names notwithstanding, some of them don't seem too bad - like Brooklyn or Gulliver.

Some of them aren't too bad. However, the majority of them do border on child abuse (this is from the woman whose kid has a first name, second name and triplr-barelled surname!).

A friend's friend called his son "Zaphod". :shake: It should be mentioned that the boy also has a more normal second name.

I don't know how exactly they managed to smuggle that one past the authorities - if you want to give a child in Denmark a name that's not on the official name list, you need approval from the proper authorities. Apparently the proper authorities don't read Douglas Adams. ;)

I agree with Silvery. Shiloh for instance is a pretty name whereas Kal El is as weird as it gets...

I've got a rather "exotic" first name (I think that with hindsight my parents probably regret giving me that name) so I can't really criticize (and no I won't reveal my secret identity).

I think you can live with a weird name but "Kal El"????!!!

I like unusual names, but must admit some of these are way over the top. There are some first names that I find quite ok however (or even would consider normal): Aurelius, Brooklyn, Calico, Gaia, Gulliver, Luna, Rufus, Sage, Tallulah, Willow. Some others such as Shiloh, Seven, Saffron, London, Hopper are a bit weirder I think, but I don't you should be ashamed to be called that.

There is a well known Dutch guy who named his son Splinter.

    Wow!

While I agree with most that some are okay, most are just weird!!! Pilot Inspektor?!? wtf? Everytime a cop will pull him over or something, he'll get a fine for non-cooperation with the police when he'll be asked "what's your name?". (I'm assuming Pilot Inspektor is a guy name... but it could be female...)

But you can't expect anything less from Frank Zappa as "Moon Unit" or "Diva Muffin". He has a reputation of weirdness to maintain... :) (he did stop making music once because he said the technology at the time was not advanced enough for the sounds he had in his head)...

[IMG] I find the fact D&D players are criticising real names delicious.

Next time people complain people who like fantasy games have no grip on reality I'm pointing them to this list.

The problem is that many of these names are not "real" names. Although on a weird scale calling your son "Ocean" is probably not that bad.

But you're right that people who like fantasy games don't necessariy live in fantasy land. I'm pretty sure that being a celebrity must make life more like some sort of fantasy than simply RPing in the Forgotten Realms or elsewhere once in a while.

You've got to be quite disconnected from "reality" to be able to give some of the weirdest names on this list to your kid (like "Pilot Inspektor"). By the way "Kyd" in itself strikes me as being an example of some sort of tautological joke, it's like actually calling your dog "dog"...

I swear, if my parents ever thought to name me Fifi Trixibell, I'd be sitting in a jail cell right now, in solitary, waiting for my death sentence to be carried out.

On the other hand, what's wrong with 50 Cent's kids name of Marquise? That's not a bad name, can be pronounced Marcus, and it's not that uncommon here in the states, actually.

Should be pronounced "markiz" and I don't know about giving a child a title as a first name though...

Earl is not an uncommon name (less common than it used to be though).
