5th level Wizard, what 3rd level spells to pick

Ok, My character from Sarbreenar (national UK D&D campaign) has hit 5th level. He is, as you may have guessed, a Wizard

Specialist wise he is a Necromancer with Conjuration and Enchantment as his prohibited schools.

Now if you had just attained 5th level, what 3rd level spells would you have chosen? Forget the fact that you can research spells as that isn't too important currently. So what two spells would you have picked bearing in mind what prohibited schools the character has.

 

vampiric touch and fly. Then Fireball and.. dunno, if 3e haste is prolly the most powerful spell in the game, but if 3.5 dont bother with it.

 

3rd level spells are where a lot of the real goods are, so it's pretty tough picking the right spells.

I would go with an area-of-effect spell (fireball, lightning bolt), and then one necromancy spell. Ray of exhaustion looks particulary attractive, especially if you have a good ranged attack bonus, but otherwise, go with halt undead (I think vampiric touch) is too risky, since it requires a melee touch attack, plus 2d6 damage/healing is not too impressive.

you can combine vamp touch with a familiar, particularly effective if you have a flying one

 

A bat would be the case with my character

Never underestimate a good dispel magic either

 

Use Lesser dispel till level 7 or do, as a dispel isn't a whole lot more effective.

 

not sure lesser dispel is a spell he can pick

 

I think its just Dispel magic and maybe Greater dispel magic
