Just going through BG1 again with Tutu .

Having trouble finalizing my party. Right now I have:

    PC - Paladin
    Minsc
    Jaheira
    Imoen
    Edwin

I am generally RPing (e.g. in BG2 I intend to take Keldorn and Amoen to be all righteous), but *somehow* I can justify taking Edwin ¬_¬

Just wondering who might be a good 6th person for that party. Don't really want two thieves. Edwin + ring of wizardry negates the need for a second mage. Another fighter makes it a bit tank-heavy (though might replace Minsc with Ajantis when I bump into him). Bards are generally useless in BG1. Jaheira kinda covers my clerical needs. So who?

If you were RPing you wouldn't take Jaheira without Khalid and Minsc without Dynaheir.

For powergaming you'll also want the option to cast cleric spells offered by Branwen, Yeslick, Quayle and Tiax.

What kmonster said. I'd switch Minsc for Khalid because there's no way Jaheira would go without her husband, and add Branwen for a balanced party that makes sense RP-wise (you can justify taking Edwin as "I can keep an eye on him this way", much like Roy does with Belkar in Order of the Stick).

    Thanks for the tips.

I have never taken Branwen or Yeslick before, so it is likely to be one of those two, with Ajantis replacing Minsc.

Unfortunately, Khalid was killed by Neira in the Naskal Inn.:p

Why take Edwin? He may have his nifty piece of jewelry but that doesn't make him that much better than other mages in terms of skills. Besides if you have Minsc and his earlier "witch" that works with your party alignment-wise.

I found a very effective paladin party to be:

    Minsc
    Dynaheir
    Imoen (dualled to mage)
    Kivan -- shift to Coran
    Branwen -- shift to Yeslick

All member are good, so from role playing aspect they're fine for a paladin. The party is stacked with excellent missile and melee capabilities, plenty of firepower (Dynaheir starts with fireball) and good thieving abilities.

By the pnp rules, paladins will not travel with evil. They will not join a party with an evil member and they will only allow a neutral (non-evil or good) in the party for so long as they are absolutely needed (hence the shift from Branwen to Yeslick).

My Paladin Party's usuall go as follows,

    PC - Paladin - Tank
Khalid - with gauntlets of Ogre Power or strength potions
Jahiera - with gloves of Dexterity for staying power
    Imoen then Coran - Bowmaster
    Minsc - Tank, Comic Relief
Dynaheir( or Xan - only changed to Fighter/Mage or Sorcerer with mods, Enchanter is worthless or VERY challenging if he is your only mage. Plus i love his Moonblade)

Yes, all good characters, except for Xan, but he is basically good, just a seemingly a downer at times. This way i have 3 characters that can go toe-to-toe with anything short of Sarevok, with Jahiera for the Healing. Imy/Coran are both great thief characters and Dynaheir is a magic missle machine with the ring of wizardry, plus fireballs away to start any tough battle.
