[IMG] Suppose one of your acquaintances or friends, such as one of your co-workers, a cousin, a classmate, had been given only ten dollars (or eight Euros, etc.) to spend for a single day's leisure (ignore factors such as meals and lodging). That person then spent the ten dollars on something (you don't know what).

Now imagine yourself in your most cynical , most world-weary mood. What would your response be? What would you think he would have done?

Then imagine yourself in your most generous, humanitarian, altruistic mood. What would your response be? What do you think he would have done?

    Thank you.

Cynical: (or do I mean realistic?): Alcohol
(amounts to about 2 pints of beer in London, if lucky)

Altruistic: Something cultural, although most of the London museums are free, they do request donations. (This is me being generous to them, not them being generous with the money)

    @kitrax

lol, i was about to say something similar about the strippers ;)

cynical: blew it on beer. unoriginal, but practical.

altruistic: listened to his girl and bought her a shirt. actually, this could be put in the cynical as it benifits you because she's now quiet and happy ;)

also. what's the stroy behind this question? i'm itching to hear it :p

Cynical, giving it to some beggar who will only spend it on liquor... at least he will be happy for a few minutes.

Altruistic, sorry can't do anything altruistic, even if I gave all my money away to some poor kid in Africa, I'd only do it to make myself happy.

    Edit:
Hey, if I was allowed to come up with a selfish action, I'd adopt a puppy and gave it food and shelter. But that can't be altruistic

Ten dollars won't fix the world, so no matter how you spend it it cannot be that "altruistic" when compared to real action: give ten bucks to a shelter of homeless animals or adopt a pet from there? Gee, you just bought them enough food for two days.

But if I were cynical, I'd say that s/he would spend it to magazines. You know: those oh-so-interesting papers for men and women full of useless gossip and turning totally worthless after one or two reads. Worse; you can read them for free on Internet or in libraries.

Cynic: Sniffed up a line, then burned the note in a hysteric egoflash.

Altruist: Bough a homeless person some food.

Cynical: bought a marked down RPG for his/her self.

There is no such thing as an altruistic action.
