Here's a type of poll you don't see often - polls asking registered Republicans which Republican candidates they find unacceptable and would NOT vote for in the primaries. Some of the numbers aren't that surprising - for example, Pawlenty and Romney have low unfavorability numbers (this is one of the few polls where it's good to have a low number). Also not surprisingly, Gingrich has poor numbers, and Sarah Palin is so extreme that nearly 40% of Republicans wouldn't vote for her. The polls focused on early primary states - Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, and history shows if you don't do well in at least one of those states, your candidacy is doomed.

However, the shocking entry of the poll was the number for Huntsman - 51% of Republicans have a negative view of his candidacy and would not vote for him. About the only thing he has going for him is that people that didn't recognize his name were not included in the results, and nearly 70% of those polled didn't know who he was, so I suppose there is some room for improvement. OTOH, those people who do recognize some of the less mainstream names on the ballot are also those who are likely most motivated to vote. If this is a harbinger for how the 70% of Republicans who don't know him yet will feel, his candidacy isn't viable.
