A different take on tank character

[IMG] While browsing the items list, I noticed two seemingly innocent items that might just make a somewhat unorthodox tank character viable: Amulet of the Master Harper and Wondrous Gloves. In terms of Armor class, both are best in slot and available for (high level) thieves.

So, I was thinking of making a Fighter/Mage/Thief that dons a shield and further boosts his AC with Blur. By the end of SoA, Aslyferund + Blur is better than any Full Plate Armor available for fighters, and Bracers of AC3 is just a point or two behind almost straight out of Chateau Irenicus. With the gloves and amulet, any "real" tank character is behind by four points of AC.

But AC is (mostly) useless in ToB, right? Well, that's shortly after this character gains Use Any Item.. which allows us to trade Aslyferund for Jan's armor and the shield for Defender of Easthaven. Together with Hardiness, we're at 85% physical resistance for extended periods - none of which can be stripped off of you by Breach, Dispel or even Spellstrike, UNLIKE Protection from Magic Weapons and its brethen that Fighter/Mages are famous for.

Using Item Upgrade mod and BG2 Tweakpack "allow for simultaneous protection items without restrictions" pushes AC values all the way to the game's hard cap at -24 AC, especially if you also select AC upgrade from Hell trials.

Finally, with a bit of Shadowkeeper, you could upgrade the plain fighter into a Barbarian kit - and you'd end up with 105% physical resistance.

As far as I can tell, that's one mighty tough nut to crack - totally maxed AC or (almost) complete physical immunity with just a item swap, on top of the slew of defenses available to any mage. Do we have a winner or what?? ;)
