A few bugs in my game

I played with my Chorister bard on the weekend, and encountered a few bugs, most likely due to my tons of mods.

1-In the exit of JonBon's dungeon, a group of shadow thieves attack, normall they drink invis. potions and back-stab. They are armed with daggers+2.

This time, they turned invisible, I sprinkled Glitterdust to make them visible. Then they gulped again and turned invisible, and BACKSTABBED poor Minsc! I was scared!

But the triple backstab did 3 damage! I realised they somehow forgot to wield their daggers and were using their punches! This made them soo easy I laughed as they tried to punch and we cut them into ribbons!

Why did the thieves forget to wield their dagger+2s? I looted them from their cold corpses later.

2-In Nalia's stronghold, the dining room of the first floor, it normally holds a lot of Umber Hulks, Spirit Trolls etc. I buffed like crazy, summoned for the best of it, and then...they were not there! I was dissapointed, CLUA consoled a few Spirit Trolls and killed them for fun and XP.

Then after I killed Torgal and was leaving the stronghold, they were in the Dining room and swarmed us! We were already low on HP and spells, thanks to nasty Torgal fight! It was soo exciting! I used the door-blocking strategy to fool the dump brutes and my Chorister used a wand of fire to make short work of them in no time, but it was soo exciting, but WHY did they were late to spawn? It was irritating.

3-I killed a Spirit Troll in the room next to Glacius. Then a shopkeeper voice was heard: 'You look like the sort who can rub more than two gold pieces' or something like that, most weird. It was a 'Ghost' voice, there was no blasted shopkeeper around but I kept hearing the voice frequently and I couldn't save and rest anymore, for some reason game engine old me you can not rest or save this time. WHY?

I reloaded, killed the troll again and this time no such bug.

I killed Torgal and his army, after a very long and tedious battle! Then I heard that cursed voice again :'You look like the sort who can rub more than two gold pieces' and I lost the ability to save. I did not want to load after such a big battle, so I simply left the floor and was able
    to save/rest normally. (thanks goodness)

This was really weird and terrifying. WHY? Can someone solve these mysteries? Please!

This happens to me on a regular basis. I'm sure it's due to one of the mods I have installed. But unlike you, they actually never show up unless I use the CTRL J cheat to teleport my entire party in to the center of the dining room...even then, they sometimes don't spawn.

The only mods I know of, that change Nalia's keep is the Ease of Use mod (multiple strongholds), and Tactics (Tougher Togal). Unfortunatly, these are two of my favorite mods, and I haven't played without them since they came out.

So I'm not much help I suppose. :rolling:

    This is weird :shake:

IIRC some of the enemies in the unmodded game (random encounters) fight bare-handed although they have weapons. But I am sure that there it happens on purpose.

But the most alarming is your bug with the ghost-voice :D I have never heard of such a thing.

Anyway I think that you should continue your game.Reinstalling and restarting would be very complicated with all your mods.

I think that shopkeeper ghost voice was related to spirit trolls dying, for some reason.

I will not re-install, as long as I can continue my game, these minor things are nearly harmless and, maybe fun sometimes, it is suprising at least!

    Wish me luck! ;)

This happens to me all the time in an UNmodded game (except there would be no Umber Hulks, of course). Sometimes they show up, and sometimes they don't. Sometimes they show up AFTER the fight with Torgal, and sometimes they don't. I've learned to live with it. :p

I can't, at a glance, see anything spawning Umber Hulks or Spirit Trolls--are you sure it's not a Tactics addition? If not, it's possible that the spawn depends on your level.

It is from either Tactics or Improved Battles. From Tougher Torgal component. I also have 'hardest spawns ever possible regardless of level' component so I guess it is not depended on level. Plus my party was only lvl 10-12 (bards do gain levels fast) or such.

I was saying that in my UNmodded game, sometimes I get the fight in the dining room, and sometimes I don't. No Umber Hulks, no Spirit Trolls; just regular old trolls (with maybe an ice troll or a giant troll thrown in...I can't quite remember). Sometimes I'll go wandering through the dining room, leave it, and come back, and there they are, but more often than not, there's nobody there. Don't know if it happens to anyone else, but, like I said, it's not a big deal for me. There are plenty of other trolls to kill. :)

1- I would talk with whoever made the mod you have that improves those thieves (Improved Shadow Thieves, Improved Battles, or whatnot). They would no doubt like to hear of this oversight so that they can correct it.

2- That's not a bug, it's another example of trigger placement. There are many many places in the game where walking over a trigger will spawn creatures in another area, usually according to your level. Typically these triggers are placed where you can't help but step on them, like the two triggers in Firkraag's dungeon (in the area where you're shuffled through a hallway while orcs shoot at you from two balconies on either side). One of the triggers creates golems on the other side of the door in front of you, and the other puts even more undead in the room to the right of the golems. (Try Ctrl+Jing in there from the entrance to the area if you don't believe me. You'll find fewer enemies. Then CTRL+J back and go through normally and there'll be more there.)

In this case (de'Arnise dining hall), the trigger is not placed where you will always pass over it, since there are two doors to the general area around the dining hall. Just outside the lower door (out of the room where you first find a troll killing a servant) is where the trigger is located, but many might go up to talk to the head servant (something-ison) and go through the sercet doors to the forge where you make the FoA. Then the closest door out into the hallway is the upper door, which does not have a similar trigger (for fear of creating twice as many monsters, I would assume). If you want to fight the trolls in the dining hall, go out through the lower door; if you don't, go out through the upper door.

@SimDing0: It does spawn Spirit Trolls but not Umber Hulks in the unmodded game, IIRC.

3- Bug. Seriously, with all your mods you have to expect things like this. :shake:

Fel, when I walked out the lower door, I did not find anything spawned in the dining hall... perhaps you got the two door triggers switched? Or, probably its a result of my massively modded game.

The trigger is also very thin, so it's possible a fast-moving character can skip over it rather quickly without triggering it. I can assure you that I did not mistake the door, as I always have to be careful to go through that door (instead of the other one, which is closer to the forge) to spawn the trolls in the dining hall.

    Right-o! I guess I slipped by.

Which door is the locked one? I recall not being able to unlock one with my assassin.

The upper one is locked at a difficulty of 80. You can also unlock it with the keep key.

All hail to Felinoid, the walking, talking BG2 encyclopedia!

Seriously, you eased my mind about the troll spawn. This time, I had Jan with me who could pick the hard lock on the upper door, so I went through there. I guess this is the cause? In my former games, poor Nally Nalia could pick only one of the locks of the doors, so I always entered through there.

    About the first bug:

Well I had fought that Shadow Thieves in my previous game, they were using their daggers normally. Only this time, I have a few new modes, and they cause such a bug? Odd.

Ah yes third one is most definitely a nasty and strange bug, lucky that it did not cause much distress. After that huge battle I really really do not fight Improved Torgal and his despicable chrones AGAIN due to a stupid bug. I would much rather CTRL+Y them or else... :bang:

The Shadow Thieves in Irenicus dungeon are added by the Improved Battles mod.

But I don't think that your bug is a problem of the mod, since I always play with this mod installed and I have never encountered this bug (unfortunately :D ).

IMHO it was caused by a mod conflict or for some other reason.

I understand it is due to a mod conflict, but why? It just makes no sense to me. And still, I can not explain the Rune Assasins in JonBon's dungeon rather than Duergar warriors and cheesy mages.

Oooh I simply love my BG2, it is full of suprises!
