[IMG] single weapon style or 2 weapon style --> but can a straight thief put more than one point in either of these?

Go with Single Weapon Style. The increased chance of getting a critical hit is priceless when backstabbing. If you chose Two Weapon Style you'll have a very poor THAC0 - and the Assassin's main tactic is backstab, hide, backstab etc., so the extra attack from TWS aren't that big an advantage anyways.

Make sure to get the SP-fixpack to get the +1 bonus to THAC0 (not to mention the ability to backstab properly while wearing the Boots of Speed).

The only thief kit (including vanilla thief) that can have more than one * in Two Weapon Style is the Swashbuckler.

I agree, single weapon style is the way to go, thus you can use shortbows without switching weapons... with only one point in two weapon style it's definitely not worth the trouble.

Some weapons give you extra attacks which combined with poison can be handy againts low level foes and spell casters. ;)
