I was in hell in the room where I was deciding to go to the demon's left to sacrifice myself or to the demon's right to sacrifice Jaheira. But I'm romancing Jaheira, and our relationship has been "consummated," meaning that I know she loves me. She's headstrong, so she's not going to let me hurt myself for her (remember her response to the bandit episode?). Besides, this is my own personal hell. I make the rules, right?

Here's what happened: The demon takes Jaheira and teleports her to the far end of the doors. Jaheira heard everything the demon said and knows the drill as well as I do. In an attempt to save me, she runs and opens the last door on the left -- the side where I would sacrifice myself. She's wearing boots of speed, so she gets there before the demon can hold her.

Result: Once that last door is opened -- even by Jaheira -- the trial is over and I get the tear. No negative effects. No lost hit points, no lost dexterity, no lost experience. Anyone can open the remaining doors on that side to let Jaheira out. She can even do it herself. And because the trial is over, there are no negative effects to opening these doors.

Yeah, it's probably a bug, but it seems like a reasonable course of action, anyway. Besides, it's my hell, so why not?

This is a well-known escape that avoids the evil path. I like your rationalization though.

I believe you can also have her talk to the demon, and that this ends the test.

Well, her, or whomever gets chosen.
